West Dundee Target is closing: All consumables are 30% off

The Target in West Dundee, Illinois is closing in May. After a tip from reader Frankjess724 that all of the "consumables" (meaning, anything that can be consumed -- food, vitamins, pet food and so on) were 30% off, my husband and I headed over to check it out. We had another appointment this morning, so I didn't have much time to plan a trip.

I threw this one together solely with coupons that were in my wallet, as well as Target Cartwheel offers and the $10-off-$50 coupon from this week's ad:

- Five cartons of Minute Maid orange juice: $2.69 - 30% = $1.88 each
- Three cartons of Simply Balanced organic milk: $3.59 - 30% = $2.51 each
- Eight boxes of Lucky Charms: $2.59 - 30% = $1.81 each
- Two Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers: $1.66 - 30% = $1.16 each
- Three Dunkin Donuts ground coffee: $6.99 - 30% = $4.89 each, plus you get a $5 Target gift card for buying 3
- Five Market Pantry string cheese: $1.77 - 30% = $1.24 - 5% Cartwheel = $1.17 each
- Five Market Pantry powdered sugar: $1.59 - 30% = $1.11 - 5% Cartwheel = $1.05 each
- Two white chocolate M&Ms: $2.89 - 30% = $2.02 - 10% Cartwheel = $1.81 each

I used the $10-off-$50 store coupon from the ad, and I had eight .50 Lucky Charms printables too. With tax, I paid $52.23 for everything and got a $5 Target gift card back.

I was really happy with the prices for the organic milk and orange juice! I did go a little overboard about the Lucky Charms, but my kids have been asking to try the chocolate ones, and at $1.38 per box after coupons (and before $10-off-$50), I figured that was a good deal. Thanks to the young bakers in the house, we had run out of powdered sugar, and $1.05 per bag is a great price.

How could I have saved more? Well, if I'd brought the M&Ms coupons with me that I blogged about in this week's Target writeup they would have been an even better deal! But as I said, we squeezed this quick trip in this morning and it was done on the fly with what I had with me.

Clearance shopping at Meijer and Target

I headed to Meijer and Target today for some deal-shopping. I had several readers email that these stores' 70-75% off toy clearances had begun. so I went out to see what I could find.

First, I hit the Algonquin Meijer. They do have some toys on clearance for 50-75% off, but mostly things for younger kids. I didn't find anything for my boys there, but if you have very young kids, you might like this:

This Fisher Price Servin' Surprises play kitchen table was $79.99 and is now $20. They had four of them when I was there about two hours ago. They're very cute, and I was really tempted to get one for my nieces, but we just handed down my kids' Little Tykes kitchen table and chairs set to them. (And, I didn't want my sister to disown me for giving the kids another takes-up-lots-of-space toy..! Ha.) If you know a little one who likes to play kitchen, that's a great price.

The Algonquin Meijer did have a lot of kids' clothing on clearance. I didn't see anything good in my price range for babies/toddlers (and by "my range," I mean $2 to $3) but over in the boys' department, there were quite a few long-sleeve shirts priced $1-$2.99:

Phoenix woman busted for using more than $175,000 worth of counterfeit coupons at Target

A Phoenix woman was busted for allegedly creating and using more than $175,000 worth of counterfeit coupons over a six-week period at Target. Fox News of Phoenix has the story:

Authorities say a Phoenix woman is accused of making and using fake store coupons to support her drug habit.

Phoenix police say 51-year-old Terry Darcy could have obtained more than $300,000 annually in fraudulent theft and returns.

They say several Target department stores in the Phoenix metro area suspect Darcy used homemade coupons, allowing her to get large quantities of product for free.

A six-week investigation showed business losses of more than $175,000.

Police searched Darcy's hotel room last Friday and reported finding master copies of coupons.

Officer say Darcy told them she had been running her operation since 2008 and has a $145-per-day heroin addiction.
