You may have read in the news recently that changes are in store for Jewel-Osco's house brand of products. Beginning this summer, the former "Jewel" branded products will be replaced by "Essential Everyday," the new store brand for all SuperValu-owned supermarkets.

It seems that a lot of our retailers are ramping up their house-branded offerings as of late, and what SuperValu is doing with Essential Everyday fits with that - creating a new store brand with packaging and quality rivaling that of national competitors.

If you've ever thought about getting that second freezer (which many Super-Couponers find invaluable for stocking up on meats, frozen vegetables, and other frozen foods) be ready to hit Jewel-Osco on Feb. 27th for their annual Freezer Deal!

As in years past, the details will be in Sunday's ad. It's a 5.3 cubic foot Igloo freezer. This year, it will sell for $159, with $160 worth of free product coupons for you (frozen foods and other food items, as well as some non-food grocery items too.)

The coupons expire on May 31 of this year. A reader has posted the ENTIRE list of coupons in the comments below this post. To maximize your savings, hold onto them as long as possible, matching as many of them as you can to Buy One, Get One Free sales in the store -- then, you'll take two home free instead of one!

Longtime reader "Your Jewel Cashier" (who, yes, is a Jewel cashier) sent a great list of tips for freezer day to share with readers planning on adding a freezer to the family this weekend...

With an unusually large number of people posting coupon issues with Jewel recently, it seems like a good time to clarify a few things for everyone about Jewel-Osco's coupon policy. The most prevalent issues people have been writing about have been acceptance of manufacturer coupons with other stores' logos on them, acceptance of a competitor's store coupon for a house-branded item, and acceptance of coupons for an amount over the face value of the product.

Acceptance of Manufacturer Coupons with another store's logo: Jewel DOES accept manufacturer coupons with other stores' names or logos on them, even if the coupon says "Redeemable only at Dominick's," and this is covered in Section 1 of their policy:

Jewel-Osco and other retailers issue coupons such as printed ad media coupons that are manufacturer coupons and contain the words “redeemable only at their retailer (e.g. Dominick’s, Walgreens) this type of coupon is redeemable at Jewel-Osco as long as the coupons states “Manufacturer Coupon”.

Yes, you read that right! After spending some time in the city today working on another coupon-related project, I walked into the Lakeview-area Jewel-Osco, located at 3630 N. Southport in Chicago, just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. And, seven days into one of the most fun "Spend $25, Get $10" General Mills Catalina sales of the year, stores from downtown to downstate have long been wiped clean of this sale's hottest movers (Grands, MultiGrain Cheerios, Totino's, Sweet Moments, Progresso, Betty Crocker cake mixes, brownies, frosting, and others I'm sure you can name.) Many stores have told me the warehouse has been drained of these items, and there was really no chance in finding ANY of them on the shelves today... the last day of the sale.

And yet, when I walked into the store, I saw... a freezer case FILLED with Pizza Rolls!
