If there are any fellow couponers that shop at the St.. Charles Dominicks - it's closing at the end of the month. Just some FYI. Are there other Dominick's closing nearby?
I went to the St. Charles Dominicks after work and other errands and it was packed. Everything was 50% off. I bought $777 worth of groceries for $85 after coupons. Then I received a $10 cat and two for $1.50. I've never seen my total that high. I was terrified and thought I made a big mistake until my total. The other people in line asked my total and cheered after I told them. I'm exhausted.
Way to go!!! That's awesome! :D
That is amazing. I BET you are exhausted. :) Nice job!
Shodeen tripled their rent so they decided to close. Ace hardware was in looking at the site, but I haven't heard anything. Most of the store's items are being shipped to the Geneva store so I'm not sure how much of a good sale they will have. Their seafood such as Gordon's and SeaPack were reduced to half price. I will inform people if I see any better sales, but so far it is so so. This was my favorite store and even though I just started couponing Jill's way in late October, I always got better deals here. The people that worked their were always very nice, not very quick with coupons, but very nice.
They were still accepting coupons though, I didn't know they would stop accepting them as they got closer to closing.
Nothing much was marked down when I was there, though half the store was empty.
When a Dominick's closes, they typically will go 50% off on everything at some point, but they'll also likely accept NO coupons. Still a good stock-up opportunity on some things -- let us know what's going on over there sale-wise.
When the Dominick's in Villa Park closed recently, they accepted ALL my coupons. Shelves were pretty bare but I remember getting a cat back on nut clusters too (something like buy 5 get $3.50). The cashiers told me they were all being moved to other stores and most seemed pretty happy about it.
I heard about this a few wks ago & talked to the mgr. Rumor was Shodeen was pushing them out. The for lease sign had just gone up that day - day after I heard about it. Interesting the DH article has the site being marketed to other groceries. I hope the employees go to the Geneva one - need a dose of niceness there!
I thought it looked pretty pathetic (even more so than usual) in there last week.
At least something goes in there... the Dom in Wauconda closed years ago and the building sits empty. So sad... MAYBE THEY COULD MOVE OUT HERE :-) that would be too awesome... but a heck of a commute I suppose. Yes, hope the employees can be absorbed into other stores.
