Preferred Card & phone number
Yesterday when I was checking out the cashier asked if I wanted to hear about a new preferred card program. I was buying your buck items, so I asked if that was what he meant. He said no, they were now linking phone numbers to preferred cards, so if you forget your card, they can look it up. Actually I was out last weekend and wanted to stop at Jewel but had forgotten my card, so went home, so this might be useful. It was busy in the store when I was there, so I did not 'sign up' when I was there. Anyone else hear about this?
I think they would ask for phone numbers in the past before they had a store courtesy card. Because you can put any random number in and get your PC sales prices. Which is what folks have noticied when they accidentally scan another card on their key ring. But it wasn't really connected to anything - you would think with all the PC updating going on last summer they would have taken that step...
This has annoyed me forever about Jewel so I know that you cannot currently just give them your phone number when you don't have your preferred card.
Call me nuts, but I'm pretty sure that they've done this forever. I'm sure someone can confirm this.
I remember being at Jewel 7-8 years ago and I'd put in my phone number (or my mom's, at that time!) if I didn't have a card with me...
I think maybe when the cards first came out that might have been true. Last weekend when I forgot my card, I called Judy to see if she knew if they could look it up or use the store card. She told me she had tried to have them look up her card once and they said they couldn't do it.....she can confirm this if she reads this.....
We wanted to see if DH's Jewel card was activating the YBs after we signed him up. Went to AH Jewel (Rand/Palatine Rd) - asked at self-checkout if we could key in a phone number "NO, we can scan our courtesy card for you." Went through regular line ... "no, we can scan our courtesy card for you." Needless to say, we used my Jewel card to make sure we got our YBs.
Are you sure he wasn't hitting on you ;)
I've seen about 20 cashiers in the past week and none have mentioned it to me.
No, he wasn't hitting on me (he wasn't my type or vice versa, I am sure) but if he was my type, I would have given him my number! LOL!
And I also have been in Jewel a lot this past week (who hasn't?) and this is also the first time I heard about it. I think he said they just started it that day (Wed) or the day before.
Dominick's does this which is great because I don't have to remember to carry a loyalty card around. I always wish Jewel would do this so I may ask about this the next time I'm at Jewel. Although that is a great pickup line :-)
