I know it is over but I have a question. I got 4 Natural Cheese (Natural monterey jack 8oz and UPC said 0 213060 8) and a Iam dog food. I did not get cat. because the cashier typed in one of my coupons as a "grocery".(At least that's what I thought.) So I asked CS to re-ring them but CS said because I got wrong cheese and refused to re-ring. Is she right? I thought I saw this UPC on the list. Thanks.

Thank you so much for tons of advice and information!!!! I feel much better now. I called the store and talked to the store manager but he was rude too. (no wonder why she has not fired yet by the manager) And I also just emailed to the catalina marketing. Thanks again!!!

Good advice so far

contact Catalina with your receipt info including time stamp line and they can look at it, you can even send it by e-mail.

For the Customer Service person, call the number on the receipt or ask for the store manager next visit so they can have a chat with the employee and the attitude.

GROCERY is a Cat killer. I thought I had this worked out and got educated.

Call Catalina

If your store won't do anything just call Catalina...I have called a few times and they are sending me my cats in the mail. The number is 1-888-826-8766.
They will get some info from your receipt and give you a reference #, then you can check back a few days later to see what the status is. I actually just called back yesterday and all my cats are being mailed except for one from the CHILL deal. They said one of my items wasn't on the UPC list...but it was tagged in the store...so I just called the store back and told them what Catalina told me and they said bring in my receipt and they would give me my CHILL cat!
Hope this helps!

On defense of the Jewel employees...

These multiple CAT deals plus the difficult-to-scan Your Bucks have the CS desk folks pretty frazzled this week. I know they were looking forward to this whole week ending. In Elgin yesterday they said they couldn't tell me how many refunds etc. they have given out this week. The CS desk was hopping! All this crazy stuff that we are benefiting from is a huge headache to the employees. As our numbers grow, I think we need to be very careful how we deal with the difficulties that we encounter so we don't alienate these workers who are at the mercies of ever-changing policies and sales - some of which they are never informed of ahead of time.

I agree, it is hard when things don't work out right for whatever reason. It can be a terrible time waster. I have, for the most part, had very positive interactions with the CS folks.

I do wish, however, that my Jewel manager (Dundee) would contact the manager in C.L. to get tips on how to be better prepared with stock.....

How do cashiers key cats in?

I would like to know also b/c cashiers are more than willing to not enter it is as grocery but don't know how. It seems as if my fav Jewel's ink is usually low on the cat machine so, often they won't scan. I end up saying, "please don't enter that as grocery. My next cat won't print." The cashier then looks at me as if I have 2 heads and then say that they don't know how. I smile and I then just ask to please have the cat back and pay in cash. That = more $ OOP! I was able to use the (4) $7 GM on the chill out deal b/c 10 products is still 10 products. The cashier put them in as grocery and it didn't matter b/c I wasn't trying to reach a certain $ amount. For a while I did hold on to 1 "good" cat that would scan. I would then give the cashier another cat wouldn't scan, until an unsmiling CS decided I was scamming and insisted on keeping the "good" scanning cat. Oh, well! I just smiled and wished those hard working ladies a nice day.

She might be right

Did you ask her to look up the upc for you? That way you know for sure. I believe the way they ring up coupons doesn't matter as much as how they ring up the item you use to reach your total. If they put the product under grocery then the register doesn't know what the product is. I think thats where the problem might be.

It was the coupon....

anytime a coupon gets entered as "grocery" it brings your dollar amount spent down so you have no longer hit the $30 mark to get the cat. I believe that if it's entered as "vendor" instead you should still get your cat. I know other people on here, when they see that happening, will ask the cashier before it's entered to NOT enter it as grocery. Or will just ask for the coupon back, pay the difference in cash and save the coupon for a purchase that isn't going to give a cat back. Sorry it happened to you, unfortunately, I think this has happened to most, if not all of us at some point :(

it seems...

that Jewel is starting to be clued in to the "grocery" problem. Tuesday at the self-checkout whens ome of them weren't scanning, the employee said "We're finding that if we enter these as 'grocery' you don't get your coupon back." :) Already knowing this I just smiled and said, Oh, Thanks!

Bad Jewel CS

When I explained about "Grocery", she said that was not true and did not let me talk. All I asked was just re ring those five items. It would only take 5 seconds to do that but she rufused it. I just checked the list Jill gave us and the UPC is there. My Jewel's this CS lady is always mean and rude. Actually, she started raising her voice and talking to me as if I was a little kid who did not listen to mother. This Jewel is as bad as Dominick's.

I've been explaining it to

I've been explaining it to the cashiers that have done this to me. When it is truly slow, we've gone over to self check to see it work differently....I'm trying to educate them, but none of them know another way to get the coupons entered other than "grocery". If any one knows how they are to do it, I'd love to know. I'll do my part to inform my cashiers :)

have them

enter the UPC numbers underneath the bar code. That's what the employees have been doing at my Jewel (Woodstock) and it works.
Also I visited W Dundee Jewel, and when my YB weren't scanning he started to enter them as grocery. I said, Can you please enter the sku number? He replied that it hasn't been working (I got nervous!) but every single one of them worked fine that way.

PS. Sometimes if they can't read the UPC #s, they'll pull another YB for the same denomination out of their drawer and scans that instead.
