Deals of the Week for March 1, 2010

This week's deal writeup has so many simultaneous Catalina sales running that you might want to upgrade your coupon wallet to hold them all!
After a semi-sort-of lull in Catalina sales (which give us money back for our next in-store purchase,) the Cat deals are back with a vengeance. And we LOVE these sales, as they have us stocking up on lots of products for very little out of pocket!
This week's newspaper contained one insert: a SmartSource. But don't be dismayed by the meager insert week -- if you're a Super-Couponer, you've been saving all of your coupon inserts each week, and you've got a nice library of coupons to draw from on lighter weeks.
Ready for Chicagoland's best Deals of the Week? You'll be taking home FREE toothpaste, FREE shampoo/body wash/deodorant, ridiculously cheap cereal in the under-a-quarter range, FREE pasta, .29 juices, .25 hot breakfasts, CHEAP frozen foods, FREE toothbrushes, FREE dental floss, cheap and FREE laundry detergent ... IF YOU ARE A BLACK BELT COUPONER:
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, YOU MUST read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your dollar-spent mark on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you... do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you're new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you'll get the Catalina every time. But if you're a "black belt" couponer and want to maximize your savings... here are some of the best deals. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, DO NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all. |

AGAIN, IF YOU ARE NEW... PLEASE, PLEASE do not use these scenarios if you are afraid of them not working for you. Understanding WHY things work this way and how the prices are structured is key to getting these deals right - and if you figure them wrong, you CANNOT go to the staff at your store and ask them to make it right. Be willing to "take one for the team..." or play it according to the ad, and you're guaranteed to get your Catalina each time.
Now, let your head clear for a moment... and dive in to the NEXT big Catalina deal at Jewel this week, C.H.I.L.L.! Buy any 10 products in the ad and get a $10 Catalina! Ready for some scenarios? If you've taken my Super-Couponing class, you'll probably remember a similar sale that I use an example... any time we have a "Buy 10, get $10," our best items to focus on are the least-expensive items in the sale. Here are two great deals that will have you taking home ridiculously cheap juices and breakfasts:
_____________________________________________________
An all-100%-juice deal
Buy 10 Old Orchard frozen juice concentrates - $1.49 each

Pay $12.50 and get $10 back! Ten breakfasts for $2.50... that's a QUARTER each!

A Hot/Lean Pockets deal... with juice
Hot and Lean Pockets are $2.49 each. Work them into the CHILL deal, and they'll count for 2 of your 10, plus you'll get $2 back in YourBucks. If you worked these into an Old Orchard juice deal, buy 2 Hot/Lean Pockets and 8 juices. Use two $1 printables for the juices. Pay $14.90 and get $10 AND $2 back -- $2.90 for 2 Hot Pockets and 8 juice concentrates!
Many people are also reporting a .75 off Hot Pockets Catalina coupon printing with this deal too... if so, take that and roll it back into the next deal!
_____________________________________________________
A New York garlic breads deal
(assuming you have ANY freezer space left at this point!)
Buy 10 New York garlic breads ($3 each)
Look for packages with .55 peelies!
With ten packages and peelies, pay $24.50 and get $10 back - ten garlic breads for $14.50 is $1.45 each!
Even if you don't want to buy ten of these, they're good to work into other scenarios :)
_____________________________________________________
A cheaper, smaller garlic bread deal
Buy 10 loaves of Mama Bella garlic bread (they're small) - $1.25 each.
Pay $12.50 and get $10 back! 10 loaves of garlic bread for $2.50... that's .25 each!
_____________________________________________________
A "mishmash of cheap frozen stuff" deal
Buy 2 Ore-Ida frozen potatoes
Buy 2 Edy's ice cream
Buy 1 Pepperidge Farm frozen bread
Buy 4 Old Orchard frozen juice concentrates
Buy 1 Aunt Jemima frozen breakfast
($19.20, pre-coupon)

Pay $15.65 and get $10 back! That's a lot of stuff for $5.65! :)
As if that weren't enough Catalina talk for Jewel this week, there's a nice ConAgra / Georgia Pacific / Snapple "Spend $25, get $10" that's currently active. As it won't hit the ad until Thursday (and the pricing will likely be much better on many of these products then) the big writeup will come with next week's Deals post. Until then, feel free to post any discoveries you may have! If you're itching for a deal preview, come on over to the Forum for discussion...
Running through 3/7 now, Trident Layers gum is on sale for $1 a pack. Use the .75 coupon from 2/7 SS and take it home for .25!
There's a great high-value coupon out for Baby Basics diapers (Jewel's house brand.) Print this $4 coupon, and then print another $4 coupon at www.babybasicsclub.com! These will cut the price in half, as most jumbo diaper packs are $7.99.
Continuing from previous weeks, if you're a fan of Jewel's Wild Harvest line of organics, here's your chance to take some home cheap or FREE! Print this $1 off any Wild Harvest coupon and look around the store -- there are MANY Wild Harvest products that sell for $1, or close to it -- crackers, cookies, produce... even reusable shopping bags.
Jewel meat deals:
- Jewel whole roasting chicken is $1.49/lb
- Perdue fresh cut-up whole fryer chicken is $1.69/lb
- Fresh cut boneless country style pork ribs are $1.99/lb
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is -- beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it's a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)
Jewel produce deals:
- Fresh mangoes are .99 each
- Anjou or Bosc pears are $1.49/lb
- Jazz or Pacific Rose apples are $1.49/lb
- Black, red, or green seedless grapes are $1.99/lb.
- Farmstand celery hearts are $2/lb
- Farmstand baby-cut carrots are $2.99 for a 2lb. bag

So what's a good scenario here? Obviously, with stores having different prices for products NOT in this week's ad, it's hard to put together one-size-fits-all scenarios for every store. But here are a few for the current week...
_____________________________________________________
A "Time to squeeze even more cheap stuff into your full freezer" scenario
Buy 2 Smuckers Uncrustables ($5)
Buy 1 Yoplait Smoothies ($3)
Buy 1 El Monterey Burritos ($3)
Buy 2 Pillsbury Toaster Strudel ($5)
Buy 1 Jones Frozen Sausage ($2)
Buy 1 Sara Lee Frozen Poundcake ($3.99)

With 7 .50-off-2 coupons, pay $22.10 and get $10 back. 14 boxes for $12.10 is .86 a box.

Or...
_____________________________________________________
A better all-vegetables deal with NO coupons
Buy 10 bags of Safeway Frozen Vegetables ($25)
Pay $25 and get $10 back = $15 for 10 bags.
While this doesn't seem all that hot, remember that these are 32-ounce (2lb) bags. $1.50 a bag for 2 lbs. of frozen vegetables is a good price. Not great, but certainly good.

Buy 13 boxes of Jones Frozen Sausages ($26)
Use 13 $1 coupons from Jewel Preferred Update book

Got other great scenarios for the $25/$10 P&G Catalina at Dominick's? Post them in the comments below! Remember that this deal DOES NOT ROLL... - with this one, you cannot use the Catalina you just got to do another round of P&G. But, if you do your P&G deal first, then go back in the store and do the other deals (meat, produce, etc) and use the Catalina to pay for those.
OR... take your $10 P&G cat and roll it into a $25/$10 Frozen Food deal... take that Cat and roll it into P&G.
Another great way to use up a $10 Dominick's cat (as they're store cats and unusable at other stores) - buy the Schick razor that's on rebate in the 2/7 SS - then send in for the rebate and get your $10 back! Note that the rebate must be purchased by 3/7/10 to qualify for the rebate. And, why not use a coupon on that razor too to make this even better? 2/28 SS, August All You, 8/23/09 SS have $4 coupons, and 12/6/09 SS, 11/22/09 SS have $2 coupons.
AND, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS. Send them in for the free $100 P&G Year of Savings coupon book -- you need $50 worth (pre-coupon) of P&G receipts, and two rounds of this sale will cover that easily. This book had some great high-value coupons last year that you'll likely want to have for 2010.
Moving beyond the Catalina craziness, here are a couple of little Dom's cheapies worth noting:
Lucerne butter is $1.99/lb...
Gorton's Seafood selections (6.3-11.4oz) are on sale for $2.99. Gorton's site has a $1-off-2 printable, and the Jewel Preferred Card Update booklet has another $1-off-2 coupon inside. With these, buy 2, pay $4.98 for 2, or $2.49 each! The 1/24 SS has a .40 coupon, as does the 2/21 SS, AND, the February All You has a .60 coupon for more seafood stocking-up.
Continuing through 4/1, PureVia sweetener is on sale for $1.99. Use the $2 coupon in 1/3 SS1 and it's yours... FREE!
As usual, there are some Dominick's Super Coupons* in this week's ads too. Best bets?
- Welch's grape juice 64oz. bottles are $2.49 with Super Coupon, limit 6. Use the $1 coupon from 2/7 SS and get these for $1.49! The Jewel Heart coupon book has additional $1-off-2 coupons for the Welch's.
- 2-liters of Pepsi are .49 with Super Coupon. If you have any $1-off-4 hangtag coupons from January's Pepsi deals (these were hanging on many bottles at Wags and CVS, and if you bought a lot, you might have taken home extras!) buy 4, use that coupon, and pay .96 for 4, or .49 each!
- Skippy Peanut Butter is $1.49 with Super Coupon. Buy 2, use the $1-off-2 coupon from 8/2/09 RP and pay $1.98 for 2, or .99 each. With the .75-off-2 coupon from 1/31 RP, 11/15/09 RP, or 10/4/09 RP, pay $2.23 for 2, or $1.12 each.
- Ken's salad dressing is $1.49 with Super Coupon. Use $1 coupon 8/2/09 SS and pay .49
- Lucerne shredded cheeses are $1.49 with Super Coupon
- Pampers jumbo packs of diapers are $7.99 with Super Coupon.
- Kellogg's Rice Krispies, Honey Smacks, Corn Pops, Cocoa Krispies, Froot Loops or Apple Jacks are $1.50 with Super Coupon. Stack this with the $2-off-2 coupon from 8/30/09 RP and take two home for $1, or .50 each! Or, stack this with the $1-off-2 coupon from 12/13/09 RP, 11/8/09 RP or 8/2/09 KL and take two boxes home for $2, or $1 each...
- Kellogg's Pop-Tarts are $1 a box with Super Coupon. Use $2-off-2 Pop Tarts (fiber varieties) from 8/30/09 RP and take two boxes home FREE! Or, use $1-off-2 coupons from 9/13 RP, 8/2/09 KL and take two home for .50 a box!
- Signature Cafe Chicken Tenders are $3.49 for a 1lb. package. Print this $2 coupon and take one pound home for $1.49 - GREAT price!
Load $2 Pampers ecoupons (regular, extra protection, swaddlers) from PGEsaver.com and stack these with $2 manufacturer coupons (12/27/09 PG, 10/25 RP, 8/30/09 PG) and pay $3.99! If you're buying a qualifying variety of Pampers, the 8/2/09 PG has a "Buy Pampers, get 60ct. Wipes Free" coupon to work in here too.
Dominick's meat deals:
- Rancher's Reserve beef sirloin tip or bottom round roast is $1.99/lb. Use $2 off $10 purchase of Rancher's Reserve beef coupon, buy just over 5 lbs ($10), use coupon and pay $8 - that's $1.60/lb!
- Signature Cafe Chicken Tenders are $3.49 for a 1lb. package. Print this $2 coupon and take one pound home for $1.49 - GREAT price!
Dominick's produce deals:
- Red seedless grapes are .99/lb.
- Tender green asparagus is $1.29/lb
- Tree-ripened yellow peaches, nectarines, and plums are $1.99/lb.
*A note on Dominick's Super Coupons: Dominick's has changed their policy on minimum purchases for "Super Coupons." You'll remember that the old policy stated that the $10 or $20 minimums were based on the regular, non-sale, non-Fresh Values prices of the products:
What does "minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required" mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item's regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Got that? Now look at the new policy on Dominick's site:
What does "minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required" mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
This policy change is certainly a disappointing turn of events, to say the least...
Heading over to Meijer, we get a break from the Catalina insanity (is that good or bad?) Here's a quickie list of Meijer's best deals this week:
Gallon jugs of Meijer milk are $2 each...
Half-gallon cartons of Welch's juice cocktails are $1.99. Use the $1 coupon from 12/13 SS or this printable and pay .99...
64oz. bottles of Meijer apple juice are $1.67 each...
Half-gallon cartons of Meijer orange juice are $2...
One-pint cartons of Meijer sorbet are $1...
17.6lb. bags of Kibbles n' Bits dog food are $9.99. Use the $2 coupon from 2/21 RP and pay $7.99...
Meijer meat deals:
- Hillshire Farms smoked sausages are $1.99 per 16oz. package. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from 1/31 RP, buy 2, and pay $1.49 each...
- Center-cut half boneless pork loin is $1.59/lb.
- Ground beef from chuck is $1.69/lb.
- Tyson All-natural boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1.99/lb.
Meijer produce deals:
- 16oz. bags of Meijer frozen vegetables (corn, peas, broccoli, green beans, mixed vegetables) are $1
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $2
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you're in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you're reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store... Confusing? Yes. AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES Meijer location, they haven't been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the store is new, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) Hilander here are your best deals and sales for this week...
First, some freebies! One of the constants of being a coupon shopper is that you rarely, if ever, pay for ANY personal care products, and this holds true with our first three Hilander deals!
Reach toothbrushes are on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from 10/18 RP and take one home... FREE!
Reach dental floss is also on sale for $1. There are lots of coupons current for this -- any $1 coupons from 1/3 RP, 10/18/09 RP, or 10/4/09 RP will have you taking these home FREE!
Listerine Pocket Packs are also (you guessed it) on sale for a buck. The .50 coupons from 1/3 RP and 10/18 RP will double, netting you two FREE!
Wisk 60oz. laundry detergent is an EXCELLENT buy this week! It's on sale for $3.49. Load this $1.50 ecoupon to your Hilander card, and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupon from 1/31 RP. You'll pay just .99 for the bottle!
Need more detergent All 50oz. laundry detergent is cheap too with a similar deal! It's on sale for $3.49. Load this $1 ecoupon to your Hilander card, and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupon from 2/7 RP. You'll pay $1.49 for another bottle of inexpensive laundry detergent!
Ore-Ida frozen potato products are $2.50 each. Use the $1 coupon from February All You and take two home for $4, or $2 each...
Continuing this week, Gorton's fish sticks and fillets are a fantastic buy at Hilander this week. 24.5oz. packages are on sale for $2.99. Gorton's site has a $1-off-2 printable -- with it, pay $4.98 for 2, or $2.49 each! The 1/24 SS also has a .40 coupon, as does the 2/21 SS, AND, the February All You has a .60 coupon. Time to stock your freezer with cheap seafood!
Hilander meat deals:
- Pork spare ribs are .97/lb
- Kroger chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.19/lb
- Ground beef is $1.27/lb - SUPER CHEAP!
- Pork steaks or western-style ribs are $1.59/lb
- Tyson boneless, skinless chicken breasts are $1.87/lb
Hilander produce deals:
- Washington pears are .99/lb
- California Cuties mandarin oranges are $3.88 for a 3lb. bag
Off to Target... it's kind of a slowish week deal-wise (which, honestly, is fine -- don't you think we'll be very busy elsewhere this week? :)
Reader Avenger reported seeing a new Gillette Fusion razor at Target. It's in a cardboard package vs. the larger plastic bubble, and it's value-priced at $4.99! If your Target has these, use the $4 coupon from 2/7 PG and take it home for .99!
17.6lb. bags of Kibbles n' Bits dog food are $9.99 here too. Use the $2 coupon from 2/21 RP and pay $7.99...
SuperTarget produce deals:
- 1lb. packages of strawberries are $2.49
- 5lb. bags of navel oranges are $2.49
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens, the deal you'll have to jump on FAST is for FREE Purex laundry detergent! Purex is on sale Buy One, Get One Free for $5.99. Use the B1G1F coupon ($7 value) from 2/21 RP to get TWO bottles FREE!
Mini Super-Couponing lesson: Why does this work? When you use a B1G1F coupon during a B1G1F sale, you will buy none and get two for free. Here's why... and remember, it's important to think of your coupons AS cash. If you walk into the store and give them $5.99 in cash, how many bottles will that pay for? Two -- because the store is selling you TWO for $6.99. Now, look at your B1G1F coupon. What is its value? Up to $7. The coupon will take off the price of two bottles, up to $7. With two bottles selling for $5.99, that coupon essentially states "$5.99 off two detergents," and when the price of two bottles is $5.99... the coupon's $5.99 value pays the entire price. You WILL pay tax on the pre-coupon price, as always... but your Purex will be free.
If these next two deals look familiar to this week's Hilander sales, it's because they are...!
Reach toothbrushes are on sale for .99 with the coupon in the Wags ad. Use the $1 coupon from 10/18 RP and take one home... FREE!
Reach dental floss is also on sale for .99 with the coupon in the Wags ad. There are lots of coupons current for this -- any $1 coupons from 1/3 RP, 10/18/09 RP, or 10/4/09 RP will have you taking these home FREE!
Many varieties of Revlon eye shadows are on sale for $1.99. Use the $2 coupon from 2/21 SS and... because you like free stuff, you get the idea :)
Lady Speed Stick deodorant is a good buy this week. It's on sale for $1.99. Buy it and get $1 back in Register Rewards... and use this .75 coupon - pay $1.24 and get $1 back! .24 deodorant!
(Of course, you could also go to Jewel and get as much FREE Suave deodorant as you'd like... with YourBucks! Makes .24 look "expensive," doesn't it?)
If you like Starbucks Frappucino, they're SUPER cheap this week too. Single-serve Starbucks Frapps are $1.25 each with the coupon in the Wags ad. Use $1 printables and pay a quarter each!
Dentyne gum is a steal too (and how many weeks in a row now have we had gum deals?!) Use the coupon in the Wags flyer to get it for .69 a pack. Then, stack this with the $1-off-2 coupon from 2/28 SS and pay .38 for 2, or .19 a pack!
Nivea Lip Care is also cheap. It's .99 with the coupon in the Wags ad. Stack this with the B1G1F coupon from 2/7 RP and get TWO for .99!
Children's Tylenol is also at such a low price that you might want to stock up -before- any children in your house have a chance to get sick :) It's on sale for $4.99. Buy two and get $5 back in Register Rewards. Use the $3-off-2 coupon from 2/21 RP or 1/3 RP, pay $6.98 and get $5 back! Two for $1.98, or .99 apiece!
No kids in the house? Same deal's running on Sudafed PE. Buy two at $4.99, use the $3-off-2 from 1/3 RP, pay $6.98 and get $5 back... also resulting in two at .99 a box!
And lastly, if you haven't done the Schick razor rebate that's in the 2/7 SS - this would be a good week to do it. Schick Intuition and Quattro razors are on sale for $8.99. Use the $4 coupon from 2/28 SS - pay $4.99... and get $3 back in Register Rewards! Then, send in that rebate, and you'll get the full $4.99 back... for a razor moneymaker!
Note that the rebate must be purchased by 3/7/10 to qualify for the rebate.
And finally, over at CVS, PowerBar Energy Gel Blasts are $1.50. Buy one and get $1.50 back in ECBs!
(Honestly, I'm not even sure what these are, LOL! They look like mini round cakes with fruit-flavored gel inside. And... they kind of scare me. But they ARE free...)
Selected SoftSoap body washes are $4.99. Buy one and get $4 back in ECBs! Use the $1 coupon from March All You, pay $3.99 and get $4 back! FREE Softsoap body wash!
Or, use this .75 printable and it's yours for just .24 after coupon and ECB!
Shockingly, here's a deal on refill razor blades for the Schick Quattro for Women. I say "shockingly," because it is almost always cheaper for us, as coupon shoppers, to keep getting free/cheap razors than it ever is to buy replacement blades.
But I digress. Here's the deal! 4ct Women Schick refills are $8.99. Use the $4 coupon from 2/28 SS, pay $4.99, and get $3 back in ECBs! $1.99 is about the cheapest you'll see for refill blades...
If you didn't use that nice $1 Keebler Club crackers coupon from the Parade magazine (Tribune insert) on 1/31, you can use it this week at CVS. Club crackers are on sale for $1.88... just .88 after coupon!
Revlon tweezers are really cheap with a coupon, if you've got 2 inserts! They're on sale for $2.99, B1G1F. Use two $1 coupons from 2/21 SS and pay .99 for two!
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the price scanner in the store -- it prints bonus coupons for you!

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won't have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today's Deals of the Week! We're all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you... to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It's a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month -- typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you've recouped the cost of the magazine, and you're on your way to even bigger savings.)

Conagra coupon booklet / Wild Harvest
Under free stuff there is a link for a Conagra coupon booklet for $17 worth. It directs you to the Walmart website and there a place to click on this booklet, but it is no longer available.
I couldn't find any more printables on Wild Harvest's site, hopefully they have one soon. I did become a Wild Harvest fan on facebook . . .

Pop Tart Sprinkling
I signed up for the Pop Tart Sprinkling the first time I saw it listed on this blog. They asked for my kids' birthdays and their favorite kind of poptart. Today in the mail we received a 1/2 birthday kit from PopTart Sprinkling. Included in the kit were two pop tarts, a birthday card and a birthday banner.
Jewel re-formatting $25/10 or $30/10 Preferred deals?
(Huntley store) Thursday morning I attempted to purchase some items on the ConAgra deal.
One including 3 Sparkles and one Danactive worked (24.48).
Then my next attempt at purchasing just 8 Activias, did not work.
(Using shelf or budget buy price to accumulate the $25)
Because the store was slow I attempted another version with the Angel Soft and still no Cat. The front end manager suggested not scanning the card until at the end which we did and she watched. still no cat.
She gladly refunded my money and coupons and she wondered if the policy changed.
So I went to the store at lunch near work (South Elgin) and attempted another version using the P&G Pantene andanother Conagra and still no Cats. The front end manager double checked all SKU's and then looked at my receipt and said you have to hit $25 preferred price now.
So she refunded my money and coupons. I thanked her for her time and went back to work re-thinking how I could re-work the deals.
Today I went to the store at lunch and after puchasing $25.21 preferred price, and used my coupons, the Cat finally printed.
The Conagra Cat finally printed after I purchased 3 Angel soft and 3 Activias.
The front end manager today said they are re-working the policy so that all the stores are uniform. they are all going to be switched to $25 preferred price not shelf or budget buy price. On the other hand she also stated that there we might also have to begin staggering our purchases or allowing some time between each deal or changing registers.
can you confirm any of this?
I don't have any idea if
I don't have any idea if they're going to change their policy or not...but I will say others have said this for a couple of years.
Thanks and Old Orchard info
First, Old Orchard flavors at my Jewel didn't line up with the sku numbers Jill has, but there were tags and the 3 flavors included were pineapple, orange pineapple and cranberry, just different sku's. Weird.
Jill, my pre-coupon total was $194 (4 trans) and after q's was $150, then I walked out with $93 in cats and YBs. I didn't feel like rolling them at the time. I feel rich and lucky. So much food and many toiletries - like I am prepared for anything and could share if someone needed something. What a feeling and I owe it all to my good friend who started me on this, and you. Thanks!!!!
Schick Rebate
Where do you get the Schick rebate for the Wags deal??
rebate form
I had mine cut out for a while, but try 2/7 Smart source.
Kotex at Wags
Did this deal several times. Buy three Kotex at 2.99 each get $5 RR back. Used some $2.00 and $1.50 printables. So 3 X 2.99 = 8.97 Minus $2/2 Q is 6.97 Minus $5 RR is 1.97 for 3 packages. The regular size ultra thin with wings is included even though there are no signs by it. Alternated with the Children's Tylenol Cold Medicine deal. Worked great!
Kotex Coupons
Where did you find the printable Kotex coupons that you refer to?
kotex Q
I tried that coupon mom link, registered, and couldn't find kotex. I found $2 off 2 in 1/10 SS. Also, There is a printable $1 off 1 on coupons.com (probably under the personal care section).
Smart Source
You can go to couponmom.com. Click on Coupon Database then enter your state. There are three coupons that show up in Illinois (zip 60062).
A good Dom's experience
I just had the best experience at Dom's in Des Plaines with an excellent checkout lady! When a few of my coupons would't work for no apparent reason, she didn't make excuses, but instead figured out the problem, even when there was a line behind me (one problem being the cat had printed out too lightly). Thank you Dom's or I should say check out lady!
frozen food sale
I did the Doms frozen food sale that is going on now til the end of the month, pretty good deals especially when you have alot of expired Qs, but I realized after the $10 cat printed it said NEXT PURCHASE OF FROZEN FOOD ITEMS only. I now have 2 10cats to use by the end of Mar on MORE frozen foods! UGH!
Roll them
You CAN roll them into more $25/$10 Frozen Food deals.
And I'll have a good scenario to blow off/use up extra Doms frozen food Cats with tomorrow's Deals too.
Dominick's changing coupon policy?
I went to Dominick's (in Oswego) to get the Pure Via sweetener on sale for $1.99 and wanted to use my $2.00 off coupon. Their scanner rejected it and the checkout lady told me they were changing their policy to accept coupons up to the amount of the item and not allow an overage. She said I would have to buy two Pure Via sweeteners to use my coupon. Has anyone else experienced this at Dominick's?
To Meijer or not to Meijer?
I'm a regular Meijer Shopper, and subscribe to a well known coupon service. Thanks to neighbors and colleagues I often have 7 copies of inserts. And yet, a lot of the information I pay for is incorrect. According to this sight, Jewel and Dominick's seem to have the best deals. Should I cancel my coupon service (a dollar or so a week) and stick with this site only? Thanks
GG?
Are you talking about the Grocery Game Meijer list? If you subscribe to it, understand that the list you're looking at comes out of Michigan -- it contains our sales for NEXT week. What's currently on that list starts Sunday in Illinois. Does that make sense?
Grocery Game & Meijer
Yes, I understand the dates. Today is the last day I can use the February 23 - 27 GG list. The sale for Meijer in Aurora starts on Thursdays.
However, there are many times when the original price listed on GG is much lower than the one at my Meijer and therefore my savings are less. And the coupon location is often incorrect. I look and look through the inserts and then head over to Coupon Tom to find the correct insert. It seems that in the last year or so, I'm doing my own research.
Grocery Game
I'm currently under the free trial period, and noticed MANY deals for Meijer that they didn't list a MF coupon for... They got the MMB coupon, but not the MF???
When the trial period is up, I'll keep it for Kroger only (I'm in MI), but seeing how Meijer lists EVERYTHING on sale in the store from their website (8,000+ items on average), it's fairly easy to work out the Meijer deals for grocery and HBA.
As far as Kroger is concerned, I wish I had more time to "walk the store" to figure out the deals...
I wouldn't pay when you've got blogs like this!
Macomb Money Savers is a site I've heard of and referred to often for Meijer deals. Having a Meijer closer to me than Jewel does NOT sway me to shop there. I do go there if I see really awesome deals, but the deals at Jewel far outweight the Meijer deals. I'm no where near a Dom's so can't comment on that.
Biggest thing though...I wouldn't pay for a couponing service. There are litterally tons of coupon blogs out there that offer great information. Your right here on one of the BEST!
2 store coupons on 1 item: Dom's Chx Tenders
I see this in Jill's deals and noticed I've got this loaded to my card. Dom's is okay with using the Super Coupon to get the price to $3.49 a pound then using an additional store coupon (printable or loaded to card like I did) to take $2 off?
CHILL deal
I'm pretty new at this, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. I just did a late night shopping trip to Jewel. I realized after I got home that I didn't get my $10 cat. After I reviewed my 10 items, I realized that one of the Lean Pockets I bought was not included in the deal. Can I go back and return the 10 items and re-purchase the correct 10 items to get the cat? I wasn't sure how returns worked when there are coupons and other cats involved.
Risky late at night.
The Catalina system resets itself after 10 or 11 pm. So if you shop around that time (or even later), the Cats might not come out. Just so you know. I think they are safe again after 6 or 7 am. Sorry I'm not too sure about the exact time, but you get the picture... :)
Return and repurchase
If you are returning and repurchasing the SAME items, it should be okay, but the store will likely throw away the one Lean Pocket that wasn't included, simply because they have no way of knowing whether or not you kept it frozen, etc. Sad but true.
What you might see if you could do is see if you could return the other NINE items, rebuy them on the spot with a tenth, participating item, and get your Cat. That way, if you offer to keep the non-included item vs. sticking the store with having to throw it away, they might be more receptive to a return/rebuy. But again, make it clear to them that you want to return/rebuy your SAME products, so they aren't forced to discard them.
Thanks!
Thanks so much! I returned the 9 items and repurchased them with a 10th item that was included in the sale. The cashier was super nice about it too.
Jewel- Chill and YB
Can I buy a bunch of items on the Chill promotion to get the $5 cat from the Your Bucks promotion? For example, could I buy 40 items on Chill (hypotheically assuming they'll total more than $50), get 4 $10 Chill cats, as well as a $5 YB cat for going over $50? Or will I not get more than one Chill cat per transaction?
Add stamps
You can add stamps to put you over the $50. I bought three books of stamps the other day and it put me over $60 and got the $6 YourBucks. I figure I can't get the stamps on a discount anywhere and I will eventually use them, so why not get the $6??
3
You can only do CHILL 3 times in the same transaction.
Only One Denomination per order
So my mom was at the Jewel in Zion and the cashier said that she can only take ONE your buck denomination per order. So she'd only take ONE $1, $2, $3...etc.
Anyone else running into this??
McHenry Jewel
This morning at the McHenry Jewel the cashier next to the cashier checking me out said they could accept as many Your Bucks as the customer had.
They're wrong
You can call Jewel's corp and they will back you up -- the cashier is incorrect.
Thanks Jill! I think that it
Thanks Jill! I think that it was just the preference of the cashier. My poor mom had to pay $9 out of pocket and she had MORE than enough YB!
I've never had
this problem shopping here before doing this, can you please check with the manager.
Out of Everything I Wanted
I went to the St. Charles Jewel and Batavia Jewel yesterday and today. They were completely out of everything I wanted (Old Orchard Juices, Ore Ida Items, Nestle Milk, Suave Shampoo, Colgate, and some of the items on the Your Bucks list neither store seemed to carry). I realize that with big sales, the first few days of the sale are probably the best time to ensure getting everything, but I honestly didn't think that on Monday everything I wanted would be completely gone. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just these stores that aren't carrying enough of the sale items?
I work at a jewel-Osco and we
I work at a jewel-Osco and we ordered tons of all the items that go with the catelina sale and I am not even kidding we had a line of people with all that stuff in their carts all doing the deal by 10am. It was nuts! So we had had very angry customers that had no idea of this steal very upset thinking we were going out of business cuz our shelves were so bare!!!
Even though Jill posted these deals
a few days ago...the deals at the grocery stores have been running for longer. So shelves have been running low for awhile. Once you get good at doing the deals you will be way ahead of the game and have most of your deals done before Jill even posts.
other stores
Woodstock has been out of the .89 suave shampoo since Friday, didn't see colgate yesterday, and neither woodstock nor Algonquin had more than 1 qualifying Old Orchard products.
Supercouponing is saturating the market! haha
yes
I saw the same thing in Batavia yesterday afternoon - all empty shelves. They say they restock every morning so someone is clearing shelves.
Same thing in Sugar Grove
I was at the Sugar Grove store this morning and they said one person came in and did 40 transactions. she got it all.
Bad name
This is what gives couponers a bad name. I saw this just this week, bare shelves for just about every deal, this was in the morning. There was one toothpaste left and while I standing there, a woman came by and saw there was none left. She said, exasperated, "What is going on? Everything is gone". I told her there was a sale, she shook her head and said, "I just want one". I gave her the one I had just put in my cart. I only ended up with two items myself. It's one thing if you need/want 40 items and there are 200 fine, but if there are 40 and you take all 40 that is wrong. And telling someone like the woman I saw this week that you are 'buying for the pantry' will not make her feel any better about not getting just one. Probably also makes her have a bad feeling about the pantry as well.
Double Dip on BC Fruit Snacks
Bought ten boxes and received $3.50 Cat (along with the $7 Cat). I guess that's the maximum you get if you buy over six so be sure to know you won't get $4.50 if you buy more than six. So much to be said this week forgot to check the actual cat on the double dip.

Walgreens & Starbucks Frapps
Are the Starbucks Frapps on sale at all the Walgreens or just selected ones? I went to 2 different ones yesterday and neither of them had them on sale for $1.
Downtown
My husband works downtown Chicago, and he did this deal by where he works. This was his first deal! He also got the Dentyne gum. Two fraps, and two pacs of gum for under $1! It even works in the city!
Yes
You need the coupon from the Walgreens flyer in-store to make them $1.25 - (view it here) - stack with $1 manufacturer coupon and pay .25 each.
best shopping trip yet!
Yesterday I did my 2nd GM deal, adding a few other YB items that we were out of (most expensive was the Huggies - $18.99 but I had a $1 coupon and the cat was $3)
Used the self-checkout and the associate scanned my coupons. After I put in all my cash, it said "Cashier approval needed". I apologized and said, "I'm sorry, I'm not sure why it's asking for that." The cashier said, "You had so many coupons at such a high value that it needs manager approval." HA!!!!! I left the store giggling!!
My savings for my Jewel trip were $29.50. I only paid $21. YAY!! 50% off!! I finally feel like a real super-couponer!!
