Super-Couponing on TV news...

Tuesday morning on WGN News, Ana Belaval's "Around Town" segment focused on how to get the best toy savings during AFTER Christmas shopping! Ana and I first went through my toy stash purchased last year after the holidays, and then we went to a local store to compare prices on the same toys:

And, last night, CBS News aired a segment on the best times of the year to buy certain categories of products. A portion of this was filmed at my Roselle Super-Couponing 2 class recently:

Great finds for little kids not so much the older kids

These are great finds for "little" kids but when you have nieces and nephews that are teenagers and teens of your own these aren't things they would be so "joyful" to see under the tree Christmas morning. Wii and IPods and Nintendo's don't have coupon deals. The best going for these is if the store offers gift cards or bundle packages. But these are great finds for "toys for tots" or other such programs which we do very often donate to throughout the year.

Actually...

... we have a teen too, and we've gotten really lucky in past years. While it's true you will rarely see an entire game system reduced this dramatically, last year we bought the basic Guitar Hero, with the guitar, for $9.99 after Christmas at Meijer (and somewhere in my cellphone I have a photo of that display with the clearance sign!) A couple weeks later, we bought the Aerosmith Guitar Hero game, with another guitar, for $25 at Target, 75% off. I found lots of smaller games like Uno, Scrabble, etc in the $2-$5 range -- and computer software-type games can go very cheap too.

Oh, and the gaming tables! Our teen had wanted an air hockey table, and they're always around $100 before Christmas - after Christmas, Target had them 75% off at $25 and Meijer at $20. We went with the Target one as it was also a combo pool table/ping pong table/foosball table too.

Luck definitely plays a big part, but those deals are out there. For this television segment, they wanted to focus specifically on kids' toys, so that's what we did.

Men love to save too!

Jill , My husband and I were watching you on the news and he was so glad to see someone prove him right. Lol. He is ALWAYS trying to save us money by getting things "off-season" or going to the clearance racks. He loves to shop, but only for deals. I used to make fun , but now I see what a huge savings it all is.. Thanks to BOTH of you!!! Have a great New Year! Thanks!

Men

There are a lot of men doing this, and they're doing it WELL. Especially with the groceries, they seem to really get the "poker game" that couponing can become, holding a coupon until it's just the right time to play it, etc.

I've long said this isn't a "mom thing," or even a "woman thing" -- this is an EVERYONE thing. Everybody needs to shop and eat. Why not do it as cheaply as possible?

Wow, what a great find on the

Wow, what a great find on the Smart Cycle, I wanted to get that for my niece's last year for Christmas, until I seen the price tag. I can't believe you found it that cheap after the holidays, I am pretty good about scoping out the after Christmas clearance, but that was an awesome find. I have already started shopping for the birthdays this year, and restocking my closet of fun!!

Target

I found it last January at the Target in Crystal Lake - they had 5 of them on the shelf at that $24.98 price (75% off.)

Truly, the toy savings is incredible in January. When we went back to the Meijer to film this (the same one I bought a bunch of those toys at last January) I was amazed to see that identical Nascar racetrack on sale for $40 after I'd paid $12.50.

Just caught the 10pm spot.
