FROM 2009: OLD DISCUSSION: JEWEL GREAT DEAL ON $9.00 OFF COUPON ON HAM AND FREE TURKEY
Someone just posted this today about a $9 coupon for Jewel on the any ham . can find it in section 1 page 11 .But to make sure everyone seen it ,Posting it again !!
cidertolls mentioned this plus in the store coupon for free Jenny o turkey breast with purchase of ham .He/she mentioned that they bought the biggest breast and smallest ham both for 75 cents . And last but not least a $20 purchase ,But with the deal going on now makes this very easy for most . Thanks to the cidertolls great find .
How the heck does that happen? My guess is that people do a search and then don't realize that they are pulling up an ancient post and reply to it.
Yes, this was a happening thread at Christmas because the turkeys were flying off the shelves (yes frozen turkeys were flying lol) We should start a new thread for this ham/turkey talk to avoid confusion.
fond memories of the old deal, this new one might be as good since you don't have a Dom's like $20 other items purchase before you can do the deal.
See the Buy Ham and get turkey deal is back, any coupons out there to make it better?
I could swear I saw a coupon for the ham somewhere but can't find it anywhere. I thought it was in All You magazine. But I don't see anything on CouponTom. Going to go through my magazines tomorrow.
there was mention of $1 off of 1 Cook's ham coupons in the November Family Circle magazine and the Feb/March Taste of Home.
Crossing fingers that the YourBucks geniuses come up with something like $30 off each $20 ham plus the free turkey then take it away a bit later after it gets "abused". ;)
What day does the free turkey breast with cooks spiral ham promotion end?
Ended yesterday (Wednesday, 12/16.) It was in the Thursday-to-Wednesday ad. With rare exception, all of the grocery deals posted end on Wednesdays.
I thought it was done, but when I saw further discussion today...I thought maybe I read something wrong. I've been doing night shopping after the kids are in bed and was thinking maybe I read something wrong or confused my dates.
I still have a little space left in the freezer :)
... people were so excited about this deal, we just kept talkin'! :)
And hey... you could still buy a nice $9.49 shank ham with that coupon super-cheap :)
wednesday's trib has ANOTHER $9 off ham Q... good until 12/26. Sure, it's not free turkey, but Jewel must want us to have a lot of ham or something! And i am not above asking the butcher to cut me a small ham roast or something to make it essentially free :o)
I bought a ham ($16), 5 Pillsbury Crescent Roll ($1.79x5), milk (2.28) and a few other things. The total is definitely over $20 after the preferred card and coupons so I have no problem using the $9 off coupon for the ham. For furture reference, I was wondering if the ham counts as part of the $20. How about the $20 purchase (before or after the preferred card)? Thanks in advance for answering my question.
coupon says "with this coupon and seperate $20 purchase". Coupon should work on preferred card price but before any coupons.
You need to buy $20 worth of other stuff, Preferred prices, not including the ham.
This is why the ham/turkey deal was so sweet though, because many of the turkey breasts were over $20 in price. Even though they'd be "free," before coupons, you were well over $20 :)
Dundee Jewel is out of turkey breasts so they are substituting whole turkey's instead. :-)
Woo Hoo! That's great news for me! Thanks for sharing. When I went to Algonquin yesterday I got a rain check and called Dundee. Talked to a very weary sounding man who said they might have more turkey breasts "eventually". I was getting a little concerned I might not get one before Christmas. A whole turkey would be even better! (Lots of frozen meals this week to make room for it in the second freezer!)
Just spoke by phone with the meat manager. He is ordering more breasts today they will be in around noon tomorrow. Until then if you ASK they will sub a whole Jennie-O turkey if it is roughly $15-$18 in price because that is the average price of the breasts. Off to Jewel this afternoon to hunt down a bird!
The evening butcher man offered it to me :-)
I got a 20 pound turkey. Dh wasn't all that happy about re-arranging once again a bulging freezer, but he did manage.
LITH Jewel is giving rain checks for the Jennie-O turkey breasts. Now I don't have to find room in my freezer right away!!!
Does anyone know how long a rain check is good for? Can I save it for easter? ;)
Jewel's rainchecks are good for 30 days. (One area (and maybe the only area) that Dominick's beats Jewel in is raincheck expirations dates; Dom's rainchecks are good for 90 days.)
try to beat us at our own game. They must have spies here on the blog and found out that NO one has room in the freezer for a WHOLE turkey! They are sick & twisted to mess with us like this :-)
Don't they know that if I ask my husband to re-arrange just once more, I'm done!! I seriously can't fit even a tiny strand of dental floss in my freezer. Is it February yet?
Hey its freezing outside, just put the turkey in a cooler, that you would otherwise use for the summer, in the garage somewhere and your all good. I got 3 and are putting 2 out there on my workbench, till I give them away.
I have only spent $12 total for groceries since 11/25! I just haven't been going in - I have too much in the freezer! I did send my husband out for egg rolls the other day and we had quite a reorganization in order to fit them all in (10 boxes). We are seriously trying to get through it all, but it just doesn't seem to go down! All I've been to the grocery store for lately has been fruit, milk, and bread. I truly thought about going to Jewel for the ham/turkey, but didn't have the energy to reorganize the freezer to fit them in - it that is even possible! How sad is that?
Stockpile must be tackled!
Thanks Jill for allowing me to be so lazy lately - not having to go out shopping because I have so much food in the house!
I know the feeling. Isn't it wonderful when you reach that "cherrypicking" stage where you are only buying the items you mentioned, plus anything that's super cheap?
And as far as the ham/turkey, you're ignoring the obvious. It's COLD outside. Some of my readers have gotten very creative during snow season -- plastic totes with snap lids sitting under their decks in the snow come to mind. :)
Someone in my family currently has a ham and turkey breast... outside in their grill. (What's going to happen to it? That's a GREAT spot!)
As for me, I picked up my third ham and third turkey breast tonight. I am OUT of freezer and fridge space. But we were planning to have family over this weekend for pizza until my mom suggested... why don't you make ham/turkey? That would be a lot cheaper... LOL!
Think about this. It will be cheaper to have a big family dinner with ham, vegetables, dinner rolls and all the "fancy" stuff... than it would be to order three pizzas.
Thanks Jill for all these problems you've created for us!
LOVE the grill idea! I currently have a few in a cooler outside my door, not that the "cooler" is needed for more than aesthetic purposes. Gotta love Chicago in winter! (Florida residents, don't try this at home.)
*Thank Goodness It's Friggin' Cold!
I cooked one ham last night and am cooking a turkey breast this weekend. 2 hams and a turkey breast outside in a cooler till it warms up or I get some freezer space. Hoepfully things will be slow the next few weeks and I can get through some of this food.
Can you believe my hubby said on Christmas (we are having family over) why dont we open our cabinets and let people take what they want...thats CRAZY!!! Hubby actually said...gasp......we have too much stuff!!!! I mean I will probably give some stuff away but let me pick....lol.....nobody better touch my Scott paper towels.
Great phrase. I haven't actually "shopped" in months. I'm a total cherry-picker. My list usually consists of about 3-5 items.
The Jewel store asst manager at 127 E. Ogden in Naperville never understands the use of RR from Walgreens or coupons. If it sounds too good to be true, she says it is. The man in back of me left because of our ham/turkey discussion. She finally understood thanks to Jill's explanation which I shared. I should go elsewhere, but it's so convenient.
Who giggled today when they opened their new Dominick's ad to find a $3 off ham coupon?
I laughed out loud!!
The $5 coupon off ham if you purchase Miller or Gallow wines is a nice one....I have done it both. The big bottles of the wine are $7.99 and the 12 pack of Miller is $8.99. Not a bad way to get cheaper wine/beer.
Met a fellow Jill Cataldo member this morning and I wanted to thank her for her helpful tips and getting my coupons redeemed. My cashier informed me that I could only use one of the coupons ham or turkey. The manager was called over and said he thought I was only purchasing those two items and didn't have a 20.00 dollar purchase. He saw my items on the belt but little did he know I had three transactions and didn't bag anything yet. But for my ham and turkey transaction I had the sobe water and my favorite chocolate bundt cake which was on sale for 2.99.
The rebate forms for Miller were by the Miller beer at my Plainfield Jewel. The rebate is as follows: $2.00 MIR if you purchase 1 750ml Gallo w/purchase of 1 12 pk or larger Miller. There are also 3 more options on the same MIR form. You can save $5.00 instantly w/purchase of one Hillshire Farm ham and 1 12 pack of Miller, or btl of Gallo. Hope this helps. Ask an Osco employee to help you locate form. If you're purchasing the Cook's ham, this won't work.
Actaully, the $5 instant savings does work with the Cook hams - I did it last night. If you read the fine print, in parenthensees, is says that you can use it on any brand of ham. It shows the picture of a Hillshire Farm ham and mentions it in particular, but does say that it can be used with any kind of ham.
However, this discount is actually on the ham not the beer. So, if you are using the Family Circle $1 man q on the Cooks ham, then they both will not work. I thought it was a coupon on the beer, but if you read it closely, it is for the ham. I still got them to take both coupons though. ;)
i can't find the rebate form. do you have it? if so, is the rebate for the 12 miller lite bottles only or 12 bottles or larger box? I bought the 18 bottle box and was just wondering. thanks.
You saved $5 off ham/turkey with the purchase of 12 bottle or larger pack of miller products. There was a tear pad at my store. This is a coupon to use in store with your purchases.
Bud products are the $10 mail in rebate.
thanks for your comment. I didn't think there was a $10 rebate on miller. danielle
dont think there is one for miller as well
Last month's Family Circle has a $1. off a Cook's ham....saw it when I was paging thru...it's a man coupon so used it with the Jewel coupon for $10 off my ham
I MADE room in my freezer for this deal! One of the ladies who works in the meat department was still there when I was picking out my ham & made sure to tell me to get my free turkey breast! She even came over & picked out the largest breast for me!! How very cool! I may do this deal again for my brother as part of his Christmas gift!
I had a cashier that wasn't impressed (well maybe a little), she was acting like I was ripping off Jewel. She remarked that my turkey breast (free after coupon) was more expensive than my ham. And she asked a manager if I really could use 2 ham coupons & 2 turkey coupons with my two transactions. Three transactions:
1 Jewel Eggs dozen (forgot to use the free Doms coupon, I would have had more grief if I would have used it)
13 Progresso soup
4 Pilsbury Simply Cookies
7 Green Giant boxed veggies
4 Breakstone sour cream B1G1 & 4-$0.55 coupons
2 plum tomatoes
1 Wild Harvest fresh basil .75 oz ($2)
2 Cheetos
1-7.97 lb Cook's Spiral Ham
1-7.39 lb Jennie-O turkey breast
1-8.28 lb Cook's Spiral Ham
1-7.99 lb Jennie-O turkey breast
$25.40 with tax
I'm sorry you had this experience with this cashier. I love the West Chicago store. They saw us coming to the cash register (DH and me, almost always together there), and the cashier said, "just a moment" and went running off somewhere. He came back with a stack of blue turkey coupons in his hand. When I told him I already had one, he seemed a little disappointed. I think he thought he was going to "out-coupon" me.
It was such a wonderful shopping experience. We came home with a large ham (no little one for us), a large turkey breast, and a lot of other groceries. All in all, we spent $32, have one $5 Cat left (rolled some a few times). Best of all was the emotional satisfaction. I love Jewel. Last year at this time I never thought I would ever say that.
Thank you, Jill, for teaching me a new way.
I'm glad you had a great cashier, I don't always have a crabby cashier, it just seems like I have one a lot more often lately.
So you got a 7.97 lb ham, or a $7.97 ham, I take it thats after your $9 Q?
It was a 7.97 pound ham, I looked for the smallest ham and this was one that I had to have them reticket since someone tore off the label.
Dumb question. I have never put ham in the freezer before. Can these cooks spiral cut hams be frozen and thawed successfully?
You sure can.
If your store has many left once New Year passes, watch them to drop in price again - my store had them .99/lb. mid January, and I bought a few more and froze them.
And those prices are still very cheap for that much meat, though this deal is... insanely cheap :)
no problem
