Deals of the Week for March 12, 2012

Hello, Super-Couponers! I hope everyone enjoyed the warmest and most beautiful Sunday that Chicagoland's seen all year! We spent the day at Coral Woods enjoying their Festival of the Sugar Maples. We have gone to it once before, but it's always amazing for the kids to see where real maple syrup comes from! In the photo below, my son is tasting maple sap straight from the tree. Did you know that sugar maple sap is only 3% sugar? It takes 43 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup, which they do right on site in the evaporator house. The best part, of course, is tasting the syrup once it's boiled down... it was outstanding! (But it's also eye-opening as to why the price of maple syrup remains high. It takes a lot of work and time to make!)

A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on Illinois stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you're shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick's deals. Welcome, and enjoy!

AND... my Super-Couponing® class is available on DVD! Own the 70+ minute video and watch it whenever you like! Click for a video preview & learn how to order!

Unless otherwise noted, GROCERY store deals run through WEDNESDAY of this week,
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday
.

(Also, if you're new, you may not have some of the coupon books that I refer to for some deals. Some coupon books can be found at the grocery store during seasonal promotions -- look for them, as I'll reference them when applicable. And, throughout the year, companies issue free coupon books that you can request to be mailed to you -- register for them if you'd like, as I'll reference them in future weeks' deals.

"Deals of the Week" is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it's best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)

Looking for deals and discount codes for Chicago Tribune home delivery?
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspaper to the same address!

Grocery Deals

Starting at Jewel-Osco... View weekly ad | Load Jewel Avenu ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons

IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon's value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed, and the Sept. 2011 coupon policy is still correct for all stores. Watch your registers.

Here's a deal on Di Lusso Deli Meat and Cheeses! 1/2lb. of Di Lusso turkey breast is on sale for $3.99. Use the manufacturer coupon for $1 off a half-pound of Di Lusso meat or cheese from the 1/29 SS or a printable (must enter Illinois zip code to view), and then look at the deli counter for a store coupon for a FREE 1/2lb. Di Lusso cheese when you buy a 1/2lb. DiLusso Deli Meat!

With both coupons, if you buy the turkey, you'll pay $2.99 for a half-pound of meat and a half-pound of cheese - that's a deal! AND, with two $1 coupons, use one on the meat and one on the cheese. Jewel's policy allows you to use one manufacturer coupon on each item in a B1G1F situation, and this drops everything to $1.99 for both, or about $1 per 1/2lb. of meat or cheese! SUPER deal!

Several of my readers have emailed to point out that the ad and coupon do not specify what kind of cheese one needs to buy, so this is also a good opportunity to purchase Di Lusso cheeses that may be pricier than your basic cheddar or swiss...

AND, if you did the 2012 Jewel-Osco Freezer Deal, one of the coupons you received with your freezer was for a FREE half-pound of Di Lusso meat or cheese in the deli. Use this coupon to get a half-pound of meat, and use the store coupon to get a half-pound of cheese, and BOTH will be free!

Also note that the Di Lusso store coupon is limit 1 per transaction.

Eight-o-Clock Coffee (11-12oz.) is on sale for $7.29, Buy One Get One Free. Buy two and use a $2-off-2 printable. You'll pay $5.29 for two, or about $2.65 each! SUPER price for coffee!

Reader Daisyruiz1 spotted a great deal on All Mighty Pacs laundry detergent! The 24ct. package is on sale for $2.99. Use the $1 coupon in the 3/4 RP and pay $1.99! She writes that this price is good through March 14th.

Reader Stringofpearls writes that Reach Dental Floss is on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from the 3/4RP and get it FREE!

Colgate toothpaste is cheap this week too. The "basic" varieties are on sale for $1. Use the .75 coupon from the 2/26 SS and take it home for a quarter!

Pillsbury Grands cinnamon sweet rolls (7.3oz.) are on sale for $1. Use the .30 coupon from 2/5 GM or 1/8 GM and pay .70!

Or, buy two and load the .50-off-2 ecoupon from SavingStar. After ecoupon, you'll pay $1.50 for two, or .75 each.

Or, buy two and use a .40-off-2 printable (another printable here or here.) You'll pay $1.60 for two, or .80 each.

Pillsbury Crescent rolls (4oz.) are also on sale for $1. Buy two and use the .40-off-2 coupon from the 1/29 SS or 1/8 GM. You'll pay $1.60 for two, or .80 each. (For more cheap rolls, the 3/11 SS also .40-off-3, or use a printable, printable, printable.)

Check out this deal on Nature Valley and Fiber One Granola Bars! The regular Nature Valley and the Protein varieties (6.7-8.9oz.) are on sale for $2.99 a box. Buy 4 and receive a $5 Catalina. This also double-dips with a National Catalina on Nature Valley granola bars - buying four will also generate another $2 Catalina!

The 2/26 SS has a .50 coupon for the Protein bars and the Fiber One Bars, and the 2/5 GM has a .50-off-2 for the granola.

For a granola bars deal, with two .50-off-2 coupons, buy four boxes. Pay $10.96 and get a $5 Catalina and a $2 Catalina. That's $3.96 for four, or .99 each.

For a Protein Bars deal, with four .50 coupons, buy four Protein varieties. Pay $9.96 and get a $5 Catalina and a $2 Catalina! That's $2.96 for four boxes, or .74 each!

Mrs. T's Pierogies (12-16.9oz.) are on sale for $2. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupons from the 1/29 RP or March All You. You'll pay $3 for two, or $1.50 each!

Jack's Pizzas (15-19.4oz.) are on sale for $3 each. Use the .75 coupon from March All You. You'll pay $2.25! (There's also a $1-off-3 Jack's coupon in the 1/29 RP1 for more cheaper pizzas...)

Hormel Always Tender Seasoned Pork Shoulder Roast (24oz.) is $4.99. Use the $1 coupon from 2/12 SS and pay $3.99.

Frigo String Cheese (10-12oz.) is on sale for $3.49. Use the .55 coupon from the 1/29 SS and pay $2.94. There's also a .50 coupon in the 12/4 SS that will net you more cheese at $2.99.

Cottonelle Bath Tissue (12ct. double rolls) are on sale for $5.99. Use the .50 coupon from the 3/11 SS. You'll pay $5.49 for 12 double rolls, or about .46 per double roll -- good price.

Baby Basics Big Pack Diapers (ad shows size 3 96ct.) are on sale for $15.99. Look for $1 peelies on the boxes of these to make them $14.99.

"No Coupon Needed" deals:

Jewel Golden Wheat or White bread (24oz.) is $1.50

Deals continuing from previous weeks:

Fisher Boy Breaded Seafood (18-24oz.) items are on sale for $5.69, Buy One Get One Free. The 2/5 SS has a $1 coupon, and there's a .75 printable online too.

With two $1 coupons, pay $3.69 for two, or about $1.85 each! And, head to Fisher Boy's site to print a "Deal of the Day" coupon too. At the time of this writing, today's coupon is a "Buy Fisher Boy, Get a FREE Applesauce!" The site notes other Deals of the Day may be for popcorn, juice, side dishes and more. What a nice bonus!

Taste of Home FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer P&G Promotion

Jewel is running an "A Taste Of Home" mail-in promotion on P&G products. Buy $25 worth of P&G products in one transaction and receive a 2-piece cookware set and one cookbook of your choice via mail (view ad here.)

The cookware is a 12-quart tamale steamer, a 5-cup rice cooker, and one of the following cookbooks: "Fresh Mexico," "Latin Grilling," or "Cocina Cubana." $25 worth of goods must be purchased in the same transaction, and you must submit a receipt from the same store you found the forms in (must be from Jewel - cannot use a Dominick's receipt, etc.)

The offer runs through 4/30/12. Look for the forms for this rebate in Spanish/Latino Jewel locations.

The form for this offer is online too on another store's website. Several readers called the number on the form and were told that printable versions would be accepted.

UPDATE! On 2/11, I received my A Taste of Home package. It contained the rice cooker, the "Latin Grilling" cookbook I chose, and a note stating that due to overwhelming demand, the tamale steamer will not be available until June 2012, so it will ship separately.

Let's go to Dominick's... View weekly ad | Load Dominick's Just For U ecoupons

Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick's does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) - if your store doubles, you'll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the "Just For U / Coupon Center" section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.

Dominick's is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Load these offers at www.Dominicks.com.

Dominick's Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick's flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)... View weekly ad

The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn't a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.

The current ad is good through TUESDAY, March 13th.

Mt. Olive peppers or relish (9-12oz.) are on sale for $1. Use the .50 coupon from 1/22 SS, which doubles to $1, and get them FREE!

    Wrapping things up with Walmart...

    Policies to know:

    • Walmart will price match any competitor's advertised price. Bring the other store's flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn't require this, it does speed the price-matching along.

    • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store's STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick's store coupon advertising ".99 Ragu Pasta Sauce" would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising "2/$1 Morton's Salt" would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for "$2.50 off Huggies" would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)

    • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor's Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.

    • Walmart's new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says "Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase."

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location's regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I've listed Walmart at the end of each week's Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you'll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

Centrum

Just want to know if the Centrum Pronutrients can be used for the regular centrum vitamins at CVS. I tried doing the deal at cvs and they wont accept the coupons.

ProNutrients

No, if you're using a ProNutrients coupon, you will need to buy ProNutrients.

Ground sirloin beef $1.99/lb @ Meijer

I was @ Meijer(Rolling Meadows) last night and found ground sirloin beef for $1.99/lb. I dont know if this was advertised sale or not. I haven't seen hamburger that cheap in months! :-) I'm stocked up now Yeah. Still plenty left.

Meijer questions

I went to Meijer in Algonquin today to get some of the deals shown on couponmom.com. I was specifically looking for the Prego pasta sauce deal, the Kellogg's Eggo waffles and the Kellogg's Pop-Tarts (which aren't even in their list anymore). None of those items were on sale or showed the prices listed on couponmom.com and for the Prego you were supposed to get garlic bread free when buying 3 and Meijer is usually very good at putting a tag on the items to tell you about it.
Has anyone tried to get these deals at another store so it maybe is a regional thing? Thanks for letting me know.

Meijer ad

The items you want will be on sale starting Thursday in the Chicago market.

Yes

The Meijer lists that sites like CouponMom, SavingsAngel use come out of Michigan, where the sales are a week ahead of ours. Those sales begin TOMORROW at most Illinois stores. :)

Thanks a lot!

This is a first, I've never had that problem before. I shall try again! :-)

The Shopper's Apprentice

theshoppersapprentice.com posts Algonquin Meijer deals.

Where to find Marcal products?

Someone else asked this question earlier, but the only answer I saw was at a store I'd never heard of.

Where can I find these Marcal products? :-)

Thanks,

Zach

Marcal Products

If you live by a Tony's Finer Foods, they stock their products as well.

Marcel products

If you are near a Woodmans, they have these products. I get the paper towels for .19 each after the coupons.

thanx for the hint! i will go

thanx for the hint! i will go there!

Reach Floss

I went to 3 Jewel-Osco's and the shelves were all wiped out of the reach floss that was on sale this week.

Jewel DiLusso

My Jewel also would not accept my freezer deal coupon for the free meat with my free cheese. They said the reason was that they are both store coupons. It was 5:30 p.m. and a line forming behind me with impatient shoppers so just accepted the response from the cashier and paid for the meat and my other groceries. Bummed.

marcal products

can anyone tell me who and where the marcal products are sold? i can't find them anywhere!

walts in tinley park

walts in tinley park

anyone have trouble at target...?

I gave the cashier,my $1.50 off 2 marketfresh frozen chicken items for the frozen chicken burritos. The cashier said I could not use the coupon bc I didn't purchase one of the two items pictured on the coupon. If that is the case they need to change the wording on the coupon. Anyone else have a problem?

i did too but i didnt get

i did too but i didnt get angry and just explained it to the guy (he hadn't even tried to scan it yet) as soon as he tried it it went through

Target - frozen chicken item

I had the same problem. I was told that I had to buy frozen chicken, NOT burritos. I didn't want to press it. But, I felt like a heel.

"ANY" chicken

The coupon states that it is off any Market Pantry chicken items - if they wanted to restrict it only to frozen chicken pieces, etc, it would need to say so.

So in that instance what

So in that instance what would you do? I hate when they make you feel like you are trying to scam them for using a coupon that they put out. I also had to show a cashier at Target (same target, different cashier) the coupon policy I had in my binder bc she said I can't use 2 coupons for the dentyne. What she didn't pay attention to, was that one was a manufacturer q and one was a store q. At first she said "I will give it to you this time" after she said that I showed her the Target Policy bc she wasn't doing me a favor! She was just doing her job ;)

I would say...

... exactly what I said to you. "Market Pantry Chicken" is just that. They have released this coupon in the past several other times, and I've always used it on the burritos or something small like that. Ditto ones like "$1 off Market Pantry Ham." I got one of those in a Target mailer last month and used it to buy a $1.01 Market Pantry ham steak.

Thank you.... It gets

Thank you.... It gets frustrating sometimes. I wished the cashiers were trained better

Raisin Bran/Frosted Flakes

If you do the deal at Dominick's, make sure you ring up the Frosted Flakes first. If you ring up the Raisin Bran first, then the FF will cost $2.49 - the RB is $1.99 with Super Coupon. I did this today and couldn't figure out why that happened. It's only 50 cents different, but you know 50 cents is 50 cents. ;)

I also have a question about this deal

In the CVS AD it says Extrabucks offer limit of 1 per household with card.

So if I did this already I can't do it again?

Correct

ECB offers at CVS are usually limited to a specific number of times you can do the deal. Limit 1 is just that - you can do it once, but not twice.

Thank you

Thank you

General Mills coupons from the coupon network - do yours scan?

I see these coupons - for example the one for the GM cereal for the Dominicks deals are from Coupon Network. I see these coupons are not the standard UPC A that we all have seen for years and there are no numbers under these Coupon networks either. I tried using these new type of coupons at Meijer last week while buying Country Crock deal and the cashier could not get these to scan - 2 different days, 2 different registers - and since there were no numbers under the bar codes, they had no idea how to enter them.
Anyone else having theses not scan? And if so what has been the outcome?

well....

The deal I posted below you--the Yoplait 4 packs---the register said "no match to family code" or something like that. It is clearly the right product and coupon (even the picture matches, LOL). I've recently had issues with coupons at Meijer not scanning properly.

Klondike 6 pack for $.99 at Dominicks

My J4U has Klondike bar 4-6 packs for $2.99. Today Dominicks sent me an email about Oreo anniversary coupons. One coupon is in the J4U coupon center for $2 off any Klondike. It shows the picture of Oreo Klondike bars, but the coupon is for any. They combine in J4U for $.99 package. Did this one this morning.

Ore Ida at Meijer

Today I bought 6 bags of Ore Ida (tater tots and hash browns), two transactions. They are 2.50, B2G1F. I also received 1.00 cat for buying two (signs on shelves stating this). So....1.33 a bag!

I can't find it anywhere, tried the one couponmom.com shows for the Meijer deals with specific zip code but no success. Thank you!

Target Question for you....

Does Target accept manufacturer coupons with another store logo?

When I was at Target yesterday doing the deal for Simply Orange Juice, I grabbed a Jewel catalina for a $1 which was a manufacturer coupon. This coupon brought down the price to $1 once you added the $1 Target coupon. I just wanted to know if this was a fluke or do they truly accept them.

The policy for Target says it does not accept coupons from other stores but it does not specify store or manufacturer coupon. Any thoughts? It would be great if they did.

Usually not

Most Targets won't accept them (it's their choice to, really) though I have heard of some doing so. It's not really clearly defined in their policy.

Isn't there still Ore Ida cat

Isn't there still Ore Ida cat going for Meijer or Dom. deals?

cat worked for me today at

cat worked for me today at doms :)

Thought so

I *thought* so, but I had quite a few people email last week saying they didn't get Ore-Ida cats. I haven't been to the store yet today to try it myself and I didn't want to post it again in case it did end early..?

Ore Ida

I did the deal last week at Jewel with the Easy Fries. I bought four but only got a $1 cat. Should I email the company and ask them to mail me another $3 cat, or might I have done the deal wrong?

i got a dollar one too last

i got a dollar one too last week. i think they changed it.
