CBS News: "Survive This Economy" television series

I appeared on Chicago's CBS 5:00 News again this evening as part of their "Survive This Economy" series. These ongoing segments have followed one family, the Wrights, as they try to cut expenses in many areas of family life, including dining out, saving on utilities, and shopping. Last week I shared tips for saving at the supermarket, and during this week's segment, I opened up my closet (literally!) to talk clothing clearance tips.

I agree! You present the 'true' consumer which tact, elegance and educational know-how! Bravo Jill! You have been inspiring me since I was fortunate enough to see you in Northbrook 2 years ago... myself and family thank you!

Clothing segment

Another great segment, Jill!

Nice!

I watched the clothing clip-all good stuff!! :)

Awesome! I'll have to tune in

Awesome! I'll have to tune in to see you! :)

too bad...

It's too bad something like this could not have been made into a television series. Instead of the extreme show with of 1,000 toothbrushes, this is the real, practical help that real families could use.

Good Job! Awesome!

great segment jill. have you

great segment jill. have you ever heard of or used the freecycle network? i saw a segment on the nate berkus show yesterday. it seems like a great way to save money when you need furniture. and less stuff in the land fills.

Absolutely

I love Freecycle! I got a plastic Little Tykes playhouse and a Little Tykes turtle sandbox for my kids free from Freecycle, and I've given everything from a daybed frame to a birdcage away on it. Especially if the item is large, and you don't want to pack it up to take it somewhere to donate, just put a post up, and you'll usually have lots of responses. :)

I also like that Freecycle has a no-contact policy. You never have to speak to the other person or ring their doorbell -- everything is set outside, and the other party lets you know where to pick it up (i.e. "side of the garage," etc.) You can learn more at http://www.freecycle.org/

Me, too!!

I've been involved with FREECYCLE for sometime now and, like Jill, I LOVE it! It truly is THAT easy to give/get stuff and it's such a great way to be 'green' and keep the landfills free of things that people can use every single day!! Whomever started it should be applauded-we need more things like it!
