Coupon Policies
How do you know what coupons a particular store takes? The answer lies in the store's coupon policy. Coupon policies are great tools for shoppers to know exactly where stores stand on what kinds of coupons they will accept.
Here are links to the most current coupon policies available at the time of this writing.
I'll add more coupon policies as I receive them.

Whole Foods?
Does anyone have a Whole Foods coupon policy? I did a search online and only found one posted in 2009. I recently discovered WF offers store coupons. many of which are stackable with manu Qs, if allowed. TIA!
I have heard mixed responses
I have heard mixed responses on here as to which WF locations allow stacking. My local WF DOES allow stacking and the CS guy there even encouraged me to buy enough with stacked coupons to add on a case discount (he explained to me how to know what number of each item would count as a case discount, for instance it was 12 items on flour and 24 items on chocolate chips).
My advise would be to go up to the CS desk and ask. My CS basically allows stacking and not overage. So, I can get an item for free but no overage with coupons.
Happy deal hunting!

"Last Updated" or "As Of" date?
Hi Jill!
I was wondering if maybe it would be helpful to include a "Last Updated" or "As of" date per store in your list so that it's easy to see at-a-glance if a policy has changed recently? I know I don't always have time to keep up with the forums/emails where perhaps you may mention that something has been updated to know the date. What I was envisioning was your list looking something like:
As of m/d/yy: [Jewel-Osco link]
As of m/d/yy: [Dominick's link]
As of m/d/yy: [Meijer link]
...etc.
If you think that it would be helpful for your readers also, I'd love to see that info on this page.
Thanks!
Lowes
I know Lowes will use any coupon from any of its direct competitors and will match it. This is particularly useful for like gardening/lawncare!

Wags coupon stacking question
I bought 6 hot pockets today. Tried to use a Ws 2/$3 in the weekly flyer, $1/2 Ws coupon from the Aug savings book and $1/3 manufacture c from the sunday paper. I thought you could stack all those but the manager said only one Ws coupon - not both.
I does say on the $1/2 not valid with any other offer but on Wild for Wags, people posted that all coupons went through for them. Any comments??
You can
You can stack all three as long as the manufacturer coupon is scanned first.
Walmart/Walgreens Rewards
Has anyone used the Walgreens Register Rewards at Walmart like we can at Jewel? The cashier at Walgreens told me a customer had used the Walgreens Rewards at Walmart, but when I read through the Walmart Coupon Policy it doesn't seem to me you could use them.
Walgreen's Register Rewards vs CVS - Extra Care Bucks
You all may already know this, but the Walgreens RR must be redeemed as though you are using it on an item and cannot combine them with another Mfg coupon. I think you could however combine it with a Walgreens coupon. Can someone clarify?
I didn't realize you couldn't use RR like you do ECBs from CVS.
I guess it's pretty clear now that I see "Mfg. Coupon" printed on the RR. Oh well. Lesson learned and one I thought I would share as I have not seen this mentioned that I could find.
GOTTA love those ECBs - they can really help in loading the cart and not have to pay for anything because all the ECBs can be combined as though you are paying with cash! LOVE IT!!!
AND....I was told this week by a CVS clerk, that you can swipe your CVS card as many times as you want during a visit and coupons will print.
I only swiped it on my way into the store and on the way out of the store and she was correct - MORE COUPONS!!!
YAY
only for a very short time
You were able to use them for a VERY short time at Walmart (maybe a week), then they changed the policy again. You can use other stores' coupons that have a specific item price on them though.
Wisted's policy
You experts probably already know this but I found out today that Wisted's does not accept any coupons from the internet. Darn! Had good ones for their cereal sale. FYI
$1.00/2 Coupons
I'm new to couponing but have read tons of comments and blogs about so that I would feel knowledgeable going into the store but am still confused on certain things.
Today I went into Walgreen's and they had BOGO Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs. I had two coupons that stated $1/2. What is the least number of packages I would have to buy in order to use both coupons?
I tried to use two $1/2 coupons on two products (the BOGO) but the cashier said that I couldn't because the discount was applied to the purchase of two. I ended up buying 4...
4 is correct
You cannot use two $1-off-2s on two packages - you would be required to buy 4. The cashier is correct.
A $1-off-2 functions as TWO .50 manufacturer discounts, one being applied to each item. You cannot then apply another manufacturer coupon to the SAME two items.
kitcoupongirl
The cashier was correct....you can use 1 of the $1/2 coupons on a BOGO sale when you are buying 2 packages. Think of a $1/2 coupon as two .50 off 1 coupons until you get the hang of it and it will be easier to figure out how many you can use. :)
Double Coupons
I live in the Joliet area and these stores are in my area do any of them double??
Jewel
Dominicks
Strack and Vann
Food4less
Ultra Foods
Walmart
I read the policies u have listed so I know Jewel and Walmart do not.....but Food4less is a Kroger Store
None do
None of those stores double, to the best of my knowledge. I -think- Strack & Van Til does in Indiana but not here.
phone them
You could just phone the stores and ask.
Overages
Can anyone clarify what the correct procedjure is fr an item on sale for lets say 2.99 and then using a coupon for say 3.00? I feel if the company is going to be reimbursed the full value of the coupon they should legally pass that savings on to me, however Walgreens has been esp difficult to me lately and it is like I am pulling teeth every time. I did look up Walgreens coupon policy as well as CVS and other stores they all seem to say the same thing, that if the coupon is for say 3.00 and the item only 2.99 you can only get 2.99 off. OK so I attempted to explain this to the cashier who then told me no you can't alter the price of a coupon (ok that was my 1st thought but the policy told me otherwise!!) so she was like you just have to pay for it and can't use the coupon??? FYI I did buy a candy bar to cover the overage so there should have been no balking about me getting money back or not paying tax etc...
So what is the answer??
Gina
depends on store policy
Couponing can be frustrating, especially when employees handle coupons differently from one another or one store does it differently than another. Hang in there. Sometimes the couponers know more about store coupon policies than the employees do, as you are finding out.
Jewel used to adjust the coupon down. Now their policy says they will not do that, so you can't use a $3 Q on an item that sells for $2.99.
Target's coupon policy, as well as Walgreens, is to adjust down the coupon.
Walmart recently changed their policy to allow overage. So they will hand you the cash back or apply the extra money from your coupon(s)(if the purchase price is less than the coupon value) to other purchases in your order.
Check the far left column on this site under "Shop Smarter" then click on "Coupon policies." Print out the policies of the stores you frequent and carry it with you when you shop. If an employee is doing something contrary to corporate's policy, show the employee (or ask to see the manager) the policy and try to get it resolved. If that doesn't work, you might consider calling the corporate customer service number.
Is that legal?
Is it legal to adjust down the coupon if they are turning it in to the manufacturer and getting the full price?
Yes
Yes, it is. The argument I've heard is that the store suffers losses in day-to-day business (shoplifting, coupon misuse, etc) - the small overage that they get is something they can arguably keep to help offset that.
That just doesn't make sense.
That just doesn't make sense. If I suffer losses, why should I be able to overcharge a supplier to make up for it?
If the store is getting face value for all coupons, then the customer should be too.
I contacted the manufacturer
I wrot to Spelnda to ask their take on it..I will let you know what they say..if they get back to me!
coupon policy
Please clarify this. Coupons.com has coupons that say "available at" Walmart, Walgreens, etc., and when I called coupons.com - which led me to Unilever - they told me the coupon can only be used at the store listed on the coupon, but now discussion on pages has led to the perception that it's a manufacturer's Q, and can be used anywhere (which is the exact opposite of what Unilever told me when I called them with this question.) Which way is right? The coupon in question this time is the Rimmel on coupons.com that say "available at Walgreens", and which bloggers are suggesting ppl use at Target to get a better deal. I called coupons.com when the coupon said "available at Walmart" and they said it is only good for Walmart, so I am guessing it's the same for all the Q's that say "available at...." ? I don't want to walk into Target and use a coupon that clearly says "available at Walgreens", especially where Target does not take competitors' coupons. But is this coupon a competitors' coupon because it says use at a particular store, or is it actually a manufacturer's Q and can be used at any store regardless of the wording? And if it can be used anywhere, how am I going to get around arguing with a Target employee that even tho the coupon says 'available at Walgreens', I'm allowed to use it at Target?
Manufacturer coupon
If it is a manufacturer coupon (which most of those are,) they are good at any store whose policy states that they accept "all manufacturer coupons," regardless of logo.
"Available at Walmart" does not mean "You can only use this coupon at Walmart."
And, even if a manufacturer coupon says "Redeemable ONLY at Walgreens," again, stores that accept ALL manufacturer coupons will take them.
Jewel-Osco's coupon policy is very specific about this:
NOTE: Jewel-Osco and other retailers issue coupons such as printed ad media coupons that are manufacturer coupons and contain the words “redeemable only at their retailer (e.g. Dominick’s, Walgreens) this type of coupon is redeemable at Jewel-Osco as long as the coupons states “Manufacturer Coupon”.
(Download policy)
As long as you are using the coupons in accordance with your store's policy, you're fine.
Jewel Catalina at Walgreens
I tried to use a Catalina I received from Jewel at Walgreens today and was told they do not accept them. I pointed out that it is a manufacturer's coupon but the manager said they won't take it because it says Jewel on it. Is this common practice at Wags? I've used the same Catalinas at Target and haven't had any problems.
Walgreens won't take them.
Remember, no store has to accept ANY coupons - it is their right to choose what they will and will not accept. Walgreens typically will not take a Jewel Catalina.
WAG'S!!! Hooray!
updated current coupon policy for Wag's!!
total props go to mashupmom where I found this link:

YAY! they put it in writing!!
:o)
Isn't it great!
Yeah I saw icoupon2 posted it here earlier http://www.jillcataldo.com/node/12571 and I saw that Rachel mentioned that she sent it to her too http://www.mashupmom.com/?p=31177 It's so great when people share such great info!
Coupon Policy
Need some guidance. If I purchase a razor and a can of shaving creme is it appropriate to use 2 coupons? I have a coupon for $3 off the razor and another coupon for free shaving creme if I buy the razor. Would CVS accept both coupons on this transaction? I'm new at this and don't want to miss an opportunity but I don't want to try to attempt an inappropriate sale.
Thanks!
you sure can....
use both of your coupons. the $3 Q is attached to the razor and the "Buy razor, get shaving creme FREE" , is attached to the shaving creme. Go for it...and start having fun.....there is nothing inappropriate here!..
Hilander
I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. This was a first for me. I went to the Hilander in Roscoe,IL and when I presented my internet coupons I was told that none of them could be doubled (as the Hilander policy says they will double coupons $0.55 and under) I was told by a manager that because the coupons say "Do not double or triple" on the top (which almost all internet coupons do) that they were not included in their policy to double. She said the store would not get paid for those if they double them.(Do they get paid double for any of the coupons that they "choose" to double?) I have shopped at all the Hilander stores in Rockford and have never had a problem. When I told her this she said that she was going to have to call the other Hilander stores and tell them that someone is doubling the internet coupons and they shouldn't be. I have read the policy and it does not say that the store will not double internet coupons. Am I right or is she?
Doubling
Indeed, some stores DO have promotions where manufacturers reimburse a portion (or at times, all) of the doubling. If a coupon does say "Do not double or triple," it should not be doubled or tripled, and if other stores have been doubling these, they are wrong to do so.
Often it has to do with the way the coupon is coded -- if the bar code begins with a 5, the coupon will usually double, regardless of the text -- but if it states it shouldn't be doubled, it shouldn't be.
That said, if an internet coupon does NOT state this, then yes, it can and should be doubled -- like you said, their policy does not exclude doubling printables.
Wal-Mart refused American Greetings cpn
I was at the Wal-Mart in E. Dundee and wanted to use the $2 off 2 American Greetings cards cpn. It has the Jewel logo on the back, but says manufacturer's coupon on the front. The cashier looked at it, and took it to the manager who said they would not take it. Needless to say, I had them refund the cards and I geuss I will use the cpn at Jewel.
Strack and Van Til Policy
I emailed them, and this is what they had to say:
Hi Robin
Our coupons policy is we take vendor coupons 30 days after expired date and we also take our in ad coupons but we do not do double coupons. I hope this is the information that you were looking for and if not call me @ 1-815-439-8834 and ask for Al Cox.
THANKS
Al Cox
Woodmans
The sign on the door is gone about not accepting internet coupons. Have they changed their policy?? I shop at the one in Carpenterville and love it...
Woodmans
Yes they do take Internet Coupons
Quite a while ago? last
Quite a while ago? last summer maybe. Some limits, but Woodmans does take IPs now. Search here for Woodmans (Thanks Jill for finally fixing this!) and you'll find several references to the new policy.
Any way to add Target Price Match policy?
to the header links? I wasn't aware they had a price match policy until recently.
http://sites.target.com/site/en/company/page.jsp?contentId=WCMP04-040400
How does price matching work?
If you find an item in a competitor's printed ad that is priced lower than it is at your Target store, we will match the price. The competitor's ad must be local and current, and the product must be the identical item, brand name, quantity and model number. Target.com is excluded from our price matching policy. Competitor catalogs can also be ad matched as long as the catalog displays a valid date and meets all other qualifications.
What if I've already made the purchase at Target?
No problem. Within seven days of purchase, bring your Target receipt and the competitor 's current printed ad. We will reimburse the savings to you.
What qualifies as proof of a competitor's advertisement?
Please show us the entire printed advertisement. Photos, photocopies, or mobile phone versions of the ad cannot be accepted as verification of competitive pricing.
What does 'identical store item' mean?
The program covers items with the identical brand name, size, weight, quantity and model number of the item at Target stores. We reserve the right to verify a competitor's advertised price and the availability of the product.
Can I use coupons when price matching?
A guest can use coupons when price matching per Target's normal coupon policy. When the guests presents a coupon(s), these steps will be followed:
Manufacturer Coupons:
Manufacturer coupons will be applied after the price match is made.
Target Coupons:
Target coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price.
Combining both a Target and Manufacturer Coupons:
The Target coupon will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price. Once the price match is made the manufacturer coupon will be applied.
Reminder: We accept one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item unless either coupon prohibits it.
Target does not ad match a competitors coupon-required offers.
What do you mean by local retail competitors?
This refers to retail stores located within the same market area as a particular Target store. Examples of a market area can be a city, a metropolitan area or a specific rural region.
What about online price matching?
All online pricing, including Target.com, is excluded from our price matching policy, as well as online retail promotions or products advertised on another company's web or mobile sites.
Other price matching exclusions include:
Online prices, including Target.com
Promotions or products advertised on another company's web or mobile sites, even those advertising in-store prices.
Timed events (e.g., early bird, door busters)
Items advertised as limited time/limited supply/limited quantity
Membership club or loyalty programs (e.g. prices that require a club or loyalty card)
Coupon-required or giftcard offers
Prices advertised only as a percent off or $ off
Competitor's free product, buy one, get one, bundled offers, or special purchases
Mobile coupons
Sales tax promotions

expired jewel cat
can i use my expired jewel cat anywhere else like dominicks?
:)
That all depends on which direction the wind is blowing and whether Saturn is in retrograde.
In all serious, many Dominicks will take them, but cashiers and managers seem to be able to make up their own rules as they go, so don't hold your breath.
cool I forgot it has been a
cool I forgot it has been a while but your right it depends on the store.its from november
Target Policy
I recently visited the Target on Army Trail Rd. (Glendale Heights, I think). I was buying 3 items with 3 manufacturers coupons (no stacking, nothing complicated, etc.). I was told by the cashier that I could only use 1 coupon. Then she changed it to 2. Then she had the mgr. come over and she said 1. I gave up and didn't purchase anything. On my way out I stopped at CS (because I had some time to kill anyways) and asked to use the red phone to call Guest Relations.
When I did I was told that it was Target's policy to accept "1 manufacturers coupon and 1 Target coupon per entire transaction". I mentioned that I had used multiples hundreds of times and she maintained the 1 & 1 rule). I asked for clarification, "Do you mean that if I bought 200 items, I couldn't use a MQ for the paper towels and a MQ for the bread?" She continued to state that "No, only 1 MQ and 1 SQ per ENTIRE transaction regardless of how many items I buy" and that it had "always been that way."
I nicely asked to speak with her supervisor and she rudely said, "Fine! But he's just going to tell you the same thing!" Then she put me on hold. After more than 10 minutes on hold I gave up and hung up the phone.
What is up with this? Does anyone's store enforce this one? Why isn't this outlined in their policy?
(side note: When I got home that evening I stopped at my regular store and used all 3 coupons without question!)
I used
all of my battery Qs and camera Q etc in one transaction today AND they gave me my overage as well - not bad, even for target! so the registers will definitely LET them put in lots of Qs. sounds like some cashiers (and possibly some managers) are cherry picking again.
That happened to me too!!
At the Broadview Target, on Friday the 18th. The cashier said the SAME thing about one man. Q & one Target Q per transaction. She started pulling out the Qs that I had multiples of & I told her just to give me all of my Qs back, that that WASN'T their policy 2 days earlier & I left my whole cart ($100 in items, pre Q--which is a LOT for me!!) there. Went to the Hillside Target & didn't have any issues. Every day at Target, it's something different...
Which Policy Where and When?
I don't get it either, stealfinder. I was at that store on 12/11, bought 19 items, used 15 mfg. coupons and 4 store coupons. Some were $/2 items (so coupons attached to every item). No questions or grief.
Meijer Coupon Policy?
Jill, do you have a coupon policy for Meijer? I had some major issues there today with trying to stack a Meijer coupon with a Manufacturer's coupon. I had to ask to speak to the next person higher up 4 times. Finally the store manager okayed it but with the stipulation that I cannot use two coupons per item every again. I kept trying to explain to the women at the customer service desk that the coupon that states "Meijer Discount Coupon" at the top is a Meijer "store" coupon. They kept telling me that it is a "vendor" coupon. I kept saying no it is a "store" coupon because it says "Meijer" which is the name of their store. It put me in a foul mood. I emailed their online customer service asking for their coupon policy but was curious if you had a copy of it. I have never had a problem stacking coupons there ever before. Any insight?
Here is Meijer's Policy
MEIJER COUPON POLICY
We accept manufacturer, Catalina manufacturer, Meijer, Catalina Meijer, and internet coupons within certain guidelines. For Meijer, with the Catalina Meijer coupons the customer will pay any applicable sales tax on the discounted price. When a manufacturer or Catalina vendor coupon is presented, the customer pays sales tax on the full retail amount; and we rebate only the value of the coupon. We do not issue rainchecks on out-of-stock vendor coupon items.
To be valid, coupons must be presented before or on the expiration date. The customer must meet with the terms or qualifications for redemption on the coupon.
We apologize for any recent confusion surrounding the MealBox coupons. To help clarify the redemption of the MealBox coupons please know the following:
1.) Mealbox coupons may be used in addition to Manufacturer coupons
2.) Mealbox coupons may be used each time a condition is met, which could be multiple times per transaction. (For example: a coupon for $1.00 off 2 Soups can be used multiple times if you have a coupon printed and the number of soups purchased matches, i.e. 2 coupons = 4 soups.)
3.) Mealbox coupons cannot be doubled or tripled at any time.
4.) Stores have the right to limit the quantity of items to normal retail purchases per transaction.
If you have additional questions please, please feel free to stop at the Customer Service desk of your local Meijer store, and ask to speak with the Service Manager.
Thank you.
Regards,
Carla
Shopformore@meijer.com
thanks...
thanks for posting this. I was just about to make my call to Meijer regarding my Mealbox problems from last night.
:)
This reminds me of the time someone (don't remember who) posted about having to argue with the CS person that there was a difference between a MEIJER coupon and an oscar MAYER coupon!
