Expiration date on chips?
So i went a little crazy on the sunchips sale at jewel. i have 14 bags and just now looked at the exp. date.i noticed a few exp by the end of the month and the others from mid to late june. i was planning on using these for snacks for my daughters birthday party in early july, do you think they will be stale by then? i know not everything truely expires by the sell by date so im just wondering if anyone knows?
somethings are shelf stable...they shouldn't go bad as much as may lose quality...but even that shouldn't be a problem with chips. after a month or two over the date you may find them to be a little stale.
check the label...see what preservatives are used. without them they can go rancid...but again...a month or two shouldn't be a problem!!
I think you're just fine...
i felt like such a dork when i noticed that, i mean we can certainly eat that amount of chips before they expire(hubby goes through 2 bags a week). but i bought them specifically for her party, maybe theyll be another chip deal by then and i dont have to worry about it.
it's fine to eat them still. There are several pantry items, boxed, bagged and canned that I have eaten a few weeks after their stamped expiration date.
And hopefully there IS another deal, stock up for the 4th and Labor Day :)
you're right! im sure there will be a ton of chip sales then, didnt even think about it, daughters bday is the 9th so i bet ill be fine!
to www.stilltasty.com they're good for 2 months past the expiration date. :-) I always check this site when in doubt.
i made it a favorite, im sure with stockpiling thats a question that comes up alot!
