I bought 3 Lindsay olives and used the store coupon for them to make them .99 and had a $1 off 3 manufacture coupon, I also bought 3 Campbells soups had the store coupon for .99 and $1 off 3 tried to use RR that I got from before....they made me buy a pack of M & M's for .69 cents because they said I couldn't use RR cuz my items would end up free....and that I didn't have enough items....but I have done this in the past and there has never been a problem.

Are they right...to make me buy the m & M's so basically my RR's covered the M& M's....please help

Yep!

Yes . . . You can definitely use them at Jewel - just like cash (well, except for paying that pesky tax!).

At Dominicks things get a bit stickier! At some Doms you can use all you want (just like Jewel). At others you can use 1 per day. At others you can't use them at all. At others yet, you'll have to dust off your tarot cards, check the weather, and pray to the grocery gods because it changes every time! (In case you couldn't tell, Dominicks stores tend to all work on their own rules and they change daily!). I happen to have a couple good stores around me and I seem to be hearing better and better things about others.

Basically yes

You had 6 items and in essence 6 coupons (since both required purchasing 3 items). Once you tried to use the RR, that put you with more coupons than items; 7 coupons vs. 6 items. So the cashier was correct to say that you needed to buy 1 more item in order to use the RR. You may have been able to buy a cheaper item than $.69 M&M's. But you also have to keep in mind that coupons can't be used to pay for tax. HTH!

# of items vs. # of coupons

Ahhhh . . . quirky little Walgreens!

One of Walgreens' odd 'quirks' is that you cannot have more coupons than you have items. (A RR counts as a manufacturer coupon - because it is one.) Also, a $1/3 counts like 3 coupons for 33 cents.

The reason you were instructed to throw in the M&M's was to increase your number of items. This is known as a 'filler'.

I personally don't use fillers at Wags. I feel like if its not an item I was going to buy in the first place, then it basically decreases the value of my RR. For example, buying 69 cent M&Ms that I didn't need turns my $1 RR into a 31 cent RR. Yeah I got the candy - but did I really NEED it? I'd rather just spend the OOP at Walgreens and take my $1 RR to Jewel - where the value will be used in full.

I hope that makes sense!
