Professional Cookware promo at Jewel
Tomorrow, Jewel kicks off their "Professional Cookware for a Penny" promo. There's been lots of talk about this on the boards, with many people speculating how much one would need to spend to collect the set of pots and pans. I attended a bloggers' event in Chicago sponsored by Jewel yesterday (which I'll post more about soon!) but the pots and pans promo was explained to all of the Chicagoland bloggers in attendance.
The deal is this: Starting 8/26/10 through 1/12/11, you'll receive a sticker for every $10 you spend (PRE-COUPON) at Jewel. (Purchases will also not be rounded up - a $29.99 total at the register will earn you 2 stickers, but a $30.01 purchase will earn you three.)
Save the stickers in a card that you can pick up at the customer service counter. When you collect enough stickers for a pan, you turn them in and buy that pan for a penny. If you fill the card halfway, you can buy a pan at a reduced price.
Jewel has a section on their site devoted to the cookware deal, and you can print a sticker-saver card online too.
Here's the list of pans and numbers of stickers:
7.8" Non-Stick Frypan
50 reward stickers ($500 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $5.49 with 25 stickers
10.2" Non-Stick Frypan
70 reward stickers ($700 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $8.99 with 25 stickers
7.8" Casserole with Lid
80 reward stickers ($800 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $9.99 with 40 stickers
9.4" Saute Pan with Lid
90 reward stickers ($900 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $11.99 with 45 stickers
10.6" Square Grill Pan
90 reward stickers ($900 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $11.99 with 45 stickers
9.4" Dutch Oven with Lid
100 reward stickers ($1000 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $12.99 with 50 stickers
11" Non-Stick Stir Fry Pan with Lid
100 reward stickers ($1000 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $12.99 with 50 stickers
13.7 x 10.1" Roasting Pan with Rack
130 reward stickers ($1300 in pre-coupon purchases)
Purchase for $19.99 with 65 reward stickers
Yes, if you want the entire set, you're looking at $7100 in pre-coupon purchases between now and January, which is likely an unachievable number for the average coupon shopper watching prices and sales. I'd approach this one by saving the stickers to the end and seeing where you're at. You never know -- if we hit some good sales between now and then (again, PRE coupon) with six months' time, we may have enough stamps for one of the pans.
Note that you MUST use your Preferred card to earn stickers -- using the store's card does NOT generate them. However, if you have your phone number linked to your Jewel card, you can give that to the cashier in lieu of the Preferred Card. And, items like gift cards, stamps, etc. are not included toward your total sticker-eligible price. Those exclusions are specified in the cookware brochure too.

East Side of St.Charles
I bought 60 worth of groceries, used many free coupons from pharmacy booklet, various manufacture coupons, and the $25 coupon from the pharmacy. I paid $1.48, and they only gave me 1 sticker. They circled $14 on the bottom. They said they could only give what it says. I have had this happen to me all the time in both St.Charles stores and the Elburn Store.
store coupons
Store coupons from the pharmacy booklet do NOT count towards the qualifying amount for stickers .
Correct
The terms do state the total is PRE-coupon on manufacturer coupons -- store coupons do count against you. We should definitely clarify that here.
Stickers
My Jewel only gave me stickers on what I actually paid - after coupons!! Why??
When that happens, I show the the receipt with the number at
the bottom which says amount towards stickers (or something like it) and I tell them the registers figure the number of stickers out for them. I got them so far.
Please post the store
Post your store's location -- corporate reads this thread and can call your store to straighten things out. The cookware promo should be based on the number at the very bottom of the receipt, not your POST coupon total - I bought $100.65 worth of groceries this week and paid $40.03 - got 10 stickers.
My Mom shops the HOmewood and
My Mom shops the HOmewood and South Holland store and they both have not giving her the correct stickers. She won't "complain" which this is a shame since she is there each week and has been cheated out of them.
Lake in the Hills Jewel
I had $12 pre coupon at the Jewel on Randall and Algonquin, but because I used coupons it brought my food total down to under $10. Had a $30 gift card purchase too so I know that didn't count for stickers, but the food should have. No amount showed at the bottom of the receipt for my stickers. I didn't say anything cause I figured it to be correct, but maybe it wasn't? I have had it happen several times.
W DUNDEE
Argues every time that it's after coupons. Last night I showed him a different receipt where I received 5 stickers, yet my out of pocket was only $3, therefore the rule is - after coupons. He gave them to me but was not happy about it.
No stickers on pre-coupon total in St. Charles Prairie St store
My pre-coupon total was $33.90, after coupons was $2.90. I asked for my 3 stickers and was told by the cashier that I was not entitled to them because I had used a lot of coupons and my total was under $10. I asked for the store manager and she also told me that I was not entitled to them because they were calculated on the final total, not pre-coupon.
Jewel is here...
... read the post down a bit from Megan at Jewel Corporate about this. They should be issuing stickers on the pre-coupon total, as both Danny and Megan at corp have posted here. I know this doesn't help when you've left the store, but it seems so odd that the stores are arguing what's printed at the bottom of the receipt where it tells you the total that the stickers are to be based on..! Crazy.

All the stickers I got at Wheaton Jewel were after coupons..
Professional Cookware Rewards Answers
Hello everyone,
My name is Megan and I am the Marketing Coordinator for Jewel-Osco and helped to set up the Professional Cookware Rewards program so it works properly in stores. I just want to give a big thanks to Jill for making us aware of the posts and messages that she has been receiving from her readers regarding this promotion, it really helps us work to improve and make each customer interaction better!
Danny Olson has done a great job addressing the questions that have come up on this blog over the past few months, and he has asked me to post a reply that addresses the questions and concerns that have continued to come up throughout the duration of the Professional Cookware Rewards program, so I hope you find these answers to be helpful!
The eligible purchase total calculated at the bottom of the receipt based on PRE manufacturer coupon totals, as those coupons are considered tender. Therefore, if you have a $50 qualifying total and redeem $40 in manufacturer coupons bringing your out of pocket expense to $10---you are owed 5 total stickers as the total is calculated on your qualifying transaction total before you redeem these manufacturer coupons. Sticker total is NOT determined based on your out of pocket spend. So if you had a $50 qualifying order and redeemed $49.90 worth of manufacturer coupons, paying only $0.10 for your purchases--you are still owed 5 stickers based on your pre-coupon qualifying total.
I have seen multiple comments that describe scenarios where customers are not receiving the Cookware Rewards Message at the bottom of their receipt after they ring up multiple back to back transactions. Please note: the cookware message will only print out if you use your Customer Preferred Card during your transaction. Our systems have to have some time to reset between transactions, usually 5 - 10 minutes. If you ring up an order with your Preferred Card, and ring up a second order 2 minutes later, it is very possible that you will not receive the Cookware Rewards message with your eligible total because the register still shows the same Preferred Card number within the system. I apologize if that is confusing, that is a system limitation that exists for all electronic promotions and Catalina programs!
I appreciate all of the helpful feedback that you have shared here, it really helps us to identify where the confusion lies with our stores! If we don't know that something is broken, there is no way for us to fix it! I would be more than happy to follow up with anyone and work to correct any errors that you may have encountered within our stores. We definitely want you to receive the stickers that you are entitled to, and I would be more than happy to look into transactions where you did not receive the correct number based on your eligible total!
Please feel free to contact me at megan.stevenson@supervalu.com with more information if there is anything that you would like me to look into, or if you would like to share an experience that you have had at one of our stores! I would be more than happy to follow up accordingly!
Thank you again for making us aware of these issues, we appreciate the opportunity to correct any errors that you have experienced!

Why do we have to ask?
My Jewel in Arlington Hts did not give me stickers for 3 different transactions, done about 10 minutes apart each. I realized it as I was loading my groceries into my car and saw a sticker on the ground. So, I went back in and asked the clerk why she didn't give me any stickers, and she said they were told not to give them out unless the customer asks for them because so many people don't use them. Is this right?
There you go :)
Thanks, Megan. I agree that Jewel has been very good about keeping an open dialogue with their customers with regard to this promotion -- I think it's wonderful when any company embraces social media and reaches out directly to shoppers. :)
Thank you Megan
It is great that you and Danny give Jewel such a personal "face" to all of us bloggers.
I hope this will help many people, it has helped me reading your post and I think I might print it out and carry it with me... I might need it sometime. :)
I just hope you are not getting bombarded with emails today, tomorrow, this weekend...
It's always tricky leaving your email address, you know! :)
Jewel Stickers
Has the pre-coupon policy changed? I have been in two different stores this week (Hickory Hills & Countryside) and did not receive stickers for the pre-coupon price. Both clerks at the customer service desk told me that if it doesn't print on the bottom of the receipt you are not eligible.
Wheaton Jewel
Hi,
First, I apologize this happened to you. I will contact the store and to make sure they're aware of the procedure manual that was supplied for them so this doesn't happen again.
Second, this particular promotion is built within the system to total everything at the bottom of the receipt. It should say:
"$XX.XX of your purchases today qualify for Professional Cookware Reward stickers!"
That total takes everything into consideration, and calculates everything out properly. When I the promotion was built, there were different categories that had to be flagged accordingly to ensure that they would/would not accumulate total points. Manufacturer coupons DO accumulate, store coupons DO NOT accumulate, Preferred Savings DO NOT accumulate, and all of the other restrictions that are listed within the packet DO NOT accumulate rewards points either. Everything is stated at the bottom, and that is the guideline that store associates should be using when giving out the stickers.
Hope this helps.

cheese Q entered as grocery q?
Is the reason we are not receiving a sticker for the 5 cheese deal because the $5 off 5 Kraft coupon beeps, so the cashiers are entering them as a $5 grocery coupon instead of manufacturer's coupon? If so, now what?
Hi Danny,
Hi Danny,
Thank you very much for your reply. It is nice to know that Jewel is right on top of things and that you have taken it upon yourself to personally reply. I think many of us here really appreciate that!!
Now back to business... :)
I hope I understood your email, please let me know if my reasoning doesn't make sense...
Last week I bought 5 Kraft cheeses and a cucumber. The total BEFORE manuf. coupons was over $10, so I figured I qualified. AFTER coupons was a different story, I was well below the $10 mark.
But my receipt showed that I qualified and I received my sticker.
Now yesterday, at the self check-out, my total before coupons, again, was over $10 and so I figured I should have qualified, but my receipt said nothing at all. After coupons I was under the $10 mark.
If we qualify BEFORE manufacturer coupons, the wording should come up on every receipt, regular check-out or self check-out. So why doesn't this always happen?
Somehow it seems inconsistent and that is what is so confusing for both us shoppers and the CS ladies at Jewel. (By the way, the coupons I used were all manuf. coupons.)
I hope I explained it well. Again, thank you so much for replying to my post. I really appreciate it!
Maggie
Except it doesn't always get it right
as anyone who only bought cheese can attest to. The total after preferred card is $10 - which qualifies for a sticker and nothing prints on the receipt indicating one sticker is due. Anyone who does two transactions in a row - of anything - also does not get a sticker 'total' either.
Entered as Grocery
I had the same problem with the cheese. I had a few other things in my order and my total was $34.XX before coupons. Since the $5 Kraft coupon would not scan and another 2 CATS I had would not scan the cashier entered them as grocery. I only qualified for 1 sticker because my receipt said my total was $11.XX. Even though I did not use any store coupons, when they were entered as grocery, they became like store coupons and lowered my total purchase amount.
I had one
purchase that was over $12 before man coupons - no cheese, and it did not show I qualified for a sticker. CS said they were having this problem a lot and gave me the sticker.
Pre-coupon?
Jill (or anyone from Jewel who is reading this:)
Jewel in Wheaton (Geneva Rd.) is not aware of the pre-coupon policy. They could not find info on this policy anywhere and were going to call corporate today to find out for sure.
They gave me 2 stickers "out of courtesy", but next time I won't get those unless they know for sure it's pre-coupon.
Is there any official statement from Jewel I can refer to with regard to this?
That would sure be helpful, since I had nothing to go by. I could have refered them to this site, but I don't think that counts... :)
Thanks for any info you have.
Official
It's definitely official that it is pre-coupon (Jewel held that large bloggers' event a couple weeks ago stressing that to everyone) -- I'll email Danny at corporate and see if he can follow up with your store.
Thank you!
I did understand from your bloggers' meeting that it was PRE coupon, but I guess this info didn't make it down to the stores yet...
The CS ladies told me they turned another lady down yesterday, who asked for her stickers after paying a small amount for her groceries. They thought she didn't pay enough to qualify, so if this could be cleared up, that would be great!!
Thank you so much, I think this will help a lot of people!
Sorry
I think I messed up. I was at work reading the posts and wasn't looking at the receipts. I think I was thinking about pre-preferred...Sorry Jill. I noticed on the receipts it states the amount of the qualifying purchase. I was thinking how much I would have paid without discounts (including preferred/sale prices). I won't post again unless I know what I'm talking about. I had a great week w/coupons...lots of my stuff ended up free...again sorry Maven.
Please Help!
My Jewel has been issuing stickers POST coupon...or actual out of pocket. I know that they'll fight me if I ask for pre-coupon total stickers. Is there anything in writing I can use to defend my position so I don't keep getting jipped on my stickers?! Looking back over my past few receipts, I really got ripped off. Thanks for the help.
WHICH store
Please, (and this goes for anyone) -- instead of saying "my Jewel," say "My Jewel on Larkin Avenue in Elgin," etc. It will help us (and corporate) help you.
Right at the bottom of the receipt there should be the amount
Right at the bottom of the receipt there should be the amount of qualifying purchase that the stickers are based on, so it is not up to the cashier, it should be up to the receipt, and that is hopefully easy to argue.
I did 5 kraft cheeses and an El milagro tortillas for a total of 10.33 pre tax less $5 kraft Q less $5 kraft catalina for a total out of pocket of 33 cents plus tax and the receipt showed qualifying purchase of $10 something so I got a sticker. It did not work with just 5 kraft cheeses earlier even if they are an even $10, I do not know why, that is why I threw in the 33 cents tortillas.
Not always
At the 2 Jewel's in St. Charles if you do back to back transactions it does not print the qualified amount for the stickers. Both stores seemed to know this and when I got my receipts I would point to the 'balance' line before the coupons for the cashier and then they would give me the stickers. So even if that 'box' does not print, go back and look at your pre-coupon balance and show it to the cashier or cs for your sticker. I did not have a problem getting the stickers.
The Pre-Coupon helps!
Today I spent $29.00 out of pocket after coupons, but they gave me 5 stickers based on a $53.00 pre-coupon total. So you really don't have to spend as much as people are stating above. The promotion runs until January. Even if you are as good as Jill (which most of us aren't) and only spend $60/week on groceries. That's 90 stickers by the end of the year. That's enough for one piece without spending any extra money.
But it's NOT pre-
preferred prices :(
True!
That would be awesome.
Sharpen those eagle eyes!!
So, after making a relatively small purchase at Jewel yesterday, I earned my first pot sticker. Those stickers are TINY! Especially when the cashier hands the sticker to you loosely tucked into a sticker card. As I was walking to the car, I realized just how easy it would be for those stickers to fall out from the card, and sure enough as I looked down I found three more that had been lost by someone else.
So, sharpen those eagle eyes as you're walking in and out of the store. That little tiny scrap of trash on the ground could actually be worth a whole bunch of $$$ that you don't have to spend in store towards getting your free pots!
I hate those tiny little stickers!
I haven't lost any yet, but so afraid I'm going to! I found an empty pocket in my purse that I stick them in as soon as I get them and stick them on as soon as I get home!
I actually had to dig a pair
I actually had to dig a pair of pants out of the hamper the other day to save my pocketed stickers from a laundry death!
I think I'm going to move that booklet to the car's glovebox!
For those old enough to
For those old enough to remember S & H green stamps - brings back memories of my mom saving these to redeem for products. Not a new idea by a loooonnnnggg shot!
I remember those books...
I used to think it was exciting to put the stamps from A & P into the books, : )
Waiting til the end
I like the idea of waiting til the end but is Jewel going to keep these in stock until the end? Other promotions that I have seen like this usually run out of items and, when it is getting late in the promotion, do not replace them when they are all gone.
Exact same pans they gave
Exact same pans they gave away at Dominicks's a few years ago.
good
Thats a good thing - I think. We got the grill pan and still use it all the time! Its a pretty nice pan. This time around I need a frying pan. (I make pancakes almost every day and my pan is gettin' pretty shambly!) I'm really not sure I can spend that much though!
what I spent, what I got
Well, I spent $9.56 at Jewel this evening. I was pleased the sticker I got was based on the PRE-coupon total of my bill, which was $16.18. (and Preferred savings $23.65). I only got 1 sticker, because I had over $10 and under $20.
So, now, not only do we have to keep track of our deals, coupons and prices, we ALSO have to keep track of whether we're near the next $10 increment amount.
I was not going to go back and buy $3.82 more of grocery items, because I bought exactly what I went in for.
I wonder if we keep the receiptsher and give a sticker for the amount that add up to $10, $20, etc.
I am VERY pleased that the pre-coupon total is used for this deal.
Incomplete sticker cards?
Can you redeem multiple sticker cards that are each incomplete? Like, one card with 50 stickers + a second card with 30 stickers + a third card with 20 stickers = 100 stickers total = 1 pan?
I just can't imagine spending enough to earn any of these things.
Pooling cards is OK
Hi Sheila,
If I'm understanding your question correctly, then, yes, it's totally OK to combine incomplete cards to make up one complete card.
Let’s say you have your card, your mom’s card and your neighbor’s card all with varying amounts of stickers, but the total amount is enough for a piece of cookware. You can absolutely collect all three separate cards and bring them in for redemption. The cashier will staple all three cards together, give you the piece of cookware that you are looking to obtain, and give you back any overflow of stamps that are owed back.
Hope this helps!
Yup!
Yes, that was exactly my question. Thank you.
What are these pans worth?
The most expensive one is the roasting pan, with a retail price of $89.99, you need 130 stickers to get one (or $19.99 with 65 stickers). Someone on Ebay had a 7 day listing on a brand new roasting pan in the box for a minimum bid of $19.99, it went unsold because no one even offered the minimum bid. It's on the bottom half of this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-THOMAS-ROSENTHAL-PROFESSIONAL-ROASTING-PAN-RACK-...
also coming soon....
...the "pot stickers" to be rampant on EBAY!...
$1,600 a month?
That is just silly...it works out to spending almost $1,600 a month at Jewel for the whole set (pre-coupon). Assuming a couponer saves on average 60% a month on their trips that is still $640/month or $160 a week. I will never need pots & pans that bad LOL
well
I don't think the point is for everyone to collect the WHOLE SET... I think it's just to help shoppers reduce costs of something they might already need - and of course incentivize shopping at Jewel instead of another store, etc.
I'm definitely not trying to buy the whole she-bang! I was very excited for this because I could really use a new frying pan. I see it as a way to reduce the cost of one... Now I can save stickers for one instead of trying to find the cheapest deal for the best pan.
