Restaurant.com Weekly Promo Offer

Need a last-minute gift idea? Restaurant.com's running a "$25 gift certificates for LESS" special! Many of my readers love these certificates, as you can score some great deals on dining out. Remember to watch restrictions on the certificates -- some require a minimum purchase or are only valid certain days of the week.

Restaurant.com

Just FYI, the restaurant.com site is running REALLY slow today, and has been crashing as well. I was able to add things to my card, but as of now, I haven't been able to check out.

Same thing happened in

Same thing happened in September (last year and this year) when they did the 90% deal: effectively the same as this deal. But you do have 4 more days to get the deals.

And don't forget you can give friends FREE $10 restaurant.com gift certificates. I think this deal is still on.

Bumping up

Last day for the $2 Restaurant.com Dec. 5-7 sale -- most $25 restaurant gift certificates are $2!

All require minimum purchase

Actually, ALL require a minimum purchase. Otherwise, it would be as simple as getting $25 worth of food for $2. The best deal on there is when it says you must spend $35, so it ends up being $12 for $35 in the end.

thanks

I have a credit from some restaurants that are not participating any more... which I thought was very nice of restaurants.com to credit me that money. Was hoping to use it to it's fullest. Thanks for the info!

restaurants refusing to honor restaurant.com certs.

I had the same experience with unos- in early feb. i believe they put up the sign on their door saying they would not honor the $25 gift certs. any more. I asked the hostess if she knew that is was illegal for a restaurant in IL to just not accept the gift certificates they agreed to issue and she said she didnt know- the manager said the same but he said it was ownerships decision and he had to follow orders...couldnt be mad at him which i wasnt. HOWEVER enough people must have let ownership know the law in IL because they started honoring those coupons again- im not sure exactly when they changed their minds but they did. Utlitmately these restaurants can stop issuing the gift certs. but they cant just say they wont honor them. Not without exposing themselves to litigation

Has anyone else had problems with Restaurant.com?

I have now arrived at two restaurants expecting a nice dinner out with my family, only to find a sign on the door saying that the restaurant is no longer accepting the restaurant.com certificates!! One was Victoria's Mexican Grill in Long Grove (a 20 mile drive away!), and the other was Pizzeria Uno in Gurnee. The Victoria's Grill was going to expire soon, so we were definitely aware of that and planned our visit before that date. Pizzeria Uno was purchased back in Sept 2010 and there was supposed to be NO EXPIRATION DATE. I had bought 4 since that is one of our favorite restaurants. I purchased certificates to two other local places (Grand Jakes and Las Palmas) when I bought the Pizzeria Uno ones, but have not checked to see if they will be accepted or not.

Now I am stuck with pieces of paper that I paid for, but are worth nothing! I would label that downright fraud! Seems to me that if the restaurant is not happy with the way the Restaurant.com program is working out for them, they should at least honor what they have allowed Restaurant.com to sell on their behalf and withdraw from offering any more.

Am I the only one who has encountered these problems?

Yes - call Restaurant.com

Early on when I started using these gift certificates, I had some problems -- one was with the Kobe Steakhouse in Algonquin, which I will never visit again. Just like you, we made a special trip, informed the server about our certificate -before- dining, ate a big meal, and when the bill came - "sorry, we won't accept that." We asked for the manager, and he actually told me "We lose too much money on these" (certificates.)

I was furious. Restaurant.com did refund the gift certificate and allow me to get one for another restaurant, but I swore I'd NEVER go back to Kobe Steakhouse after this experience. I wonder if these restaurants factor in the "anger factor" of people who are upset telling their friends (and the rest of the world) about their bad experiences...

Not related to

Not related to restaurant.com, but we had a similar bad experience at Kiku, just down Randall from there. We had one of the coupons that comes in the mail for a free birthday dinner, that didn't list any special restrictions. Told them we had the coupon when we ordered. When we got the check they wouldn't take the coupon. It's been a couple years, but I think their excuse was it was the weekend. It was a Sunday evening, and there was no such restriction on the coupon. And if your birthday is on a weekend, when are you supposed to use it?

Ruined an otherwise nice evening. I honestly can't remember what kind of tip we left after that. And like you, we haven't been back.

BTW, I see Kobe isn't on their list any more.

Don't forget to use Cashback sites.
I have found that FatWallet gives the best 25%, Discover 20% AND Mr Rebates 25%
Every little extra helps.

I always go thru these sites when I buy on line- Groupon is another you don't want to forget to check these sites. Hope I have helped someone since everyone has helped me here in the past.

What out

they have changed the prices of some of the certificates. Not all the $25 are regularly $10 - some are higher - so those would not be $2 after code. BTW the 80% off also applies to the $10 certificates, so if you just want to go to lunch and not spend $25-$35-$50 (terms for some of them), you can get the $10 certificates for 80% off too.

J.R.or anyone else who uses restaurant.com: help needed

I have never used restaurant.com but am intrigued and have some questions.
If I sign up for give big, give often I receive a code for a $10 GC. Then I go to the website
and choose a restaurant. Let's say I choose Joe's pizza shack. (fictional) For my $10 Gift code will I get a $25 gift certificate?
If I choose to buy gift certificates they are currently $3.
So for $3 do I get a $25 gift certificate to a participating restaurant?
If the pizza shack is offering $100 GC for $40 how much do I pay? $12? Do I pay with 4-$3 gift certificates?
I see each restaurant has their own rules and exceptions.
Joe's says Minimum purchase of $35. 18% Gratuity added prior to discount. Valid for Food ONLY. One certificate per table. Valid for this location only."
Do you know if the certificate value can offset tax and gratuity?
If I have a $25 certificate and my bill with tax and tip comes to $20 (or any number less than the value of the certificate)
can I just leave the overage for the server? (I am pretty sure they do not give you change and nor would I expect them to.)
The rules for this restaurant say it is for food only, it does not say you can not carry out (as some say "dine in" only) so
would it be correct for me to think I could use it on carry out?
Is redeeming at the restaurant seamless? I hate hassles.
Thanks for the help!!

Lots of questions... I've

Lots of questions...

I've only used one so far, that was a gift from a friend, and had no problem using it. I just bought some myself this fall, and have yet to use them. I was also at a restaurant once with a large party where someone had a $25 certificate. The waiter told us to not use it, as the extra tip added in would add more to the bill than the $25 saved. We appreciated the advice.

I think that the $10 free certificates are worth the $10 that normally cost $4, and at 80% off would be .80. The $25 certificates are normally $10, and now $2.

I'd wait to buy until at least an 80% offer, getting $25 for only $2. The seem to be pretty frequent. Only once have I seen anything better, around Halloween when it was 90% off. so $25 was only $1. Their site really got hammered.

At 80% off a $100 for $40 would cost $8.

Yes, each place has various rules & restrictions. I don't think the certificate can be used for the tax & tip. Some probably exclude alcohol as well. Read the restrictions before you buy.

They do not give change. If you're under the amount I don't think you can use it. Order dessert. Take it home if you have to.

Thanks J.R.

I think I'll stick with Groupon. Seems to be less restrictions and easier to use.

Restaurant.com vs Groupon

The two disadvantages to Groupon are the upfront outlay, and the 6 month expiration date.

We had a Groupon for an area restaurant, but with our busy schedule we just couldn't get around to going there. Finally used it during the last few days before it expired. We weren't the only ones. The place was absolutely packed on a weekday, and there was over an hour wait for a table. Fortunately we'd made a reservation, and got seated pretty promptly.

Restaurant.com has no expiration date, so you don't have to deal with the last minute rush. But some places have large minimum purchases. That same restaurant offered one, but you had to spend $75 to use a $25 coupon. Two of us would only get about half that. So when they offered another $30 for $15 Groupon, we got one.

Another local place only requires $35 to use a $25 certificate, which made our $40 Valentines day lunch a real bargain. So there we did Restaurant.com instead of Groupon. And just got another one for a future trip.

Used 2 in the past month.

Used 2 in the past month. First was $25 off $50 or more. We bought some extra stuff to make sure we got to $50 and actually ended up all the way at $60. With the discount, tax, and tip we were back at $50. But we had enough food to take home for a whole second meal.

Used another the week before last. $25 off $35. $40 lunch became $15 plus tip. A real good deal for the food we got. We'll definitely go back to this place with another coupon.

[BTW, Jill, is there any way I can delete all the expired deals in this thread?]

coupondad...

I love Restaurant.com. I bought and used 4 so far.Just follow instructions. It's pretty easy. I had to buy $50 before I can use $25 cert, so I just made sure my order was over $50. You do have to dine in, no take out, but of course you can bring extra home. No problem at all reedeming, just gave it to the waiter, and the bill clearly shows example- total $55+ 18% gratuity- $25 cert= new total. If your cert says buy $35, it will be $35+ 18% gratuity- $25 cert= your total. Easy. And within minutes you'll get an e mail asking to rate your experience. HTH

I made the offer to

I made the offer to coupondad, but if any one else wants to try one of the free $10 restaurant.com gift certificates, PM me with an email address, and I'll send them out Thursday.

restaurant.com coupon code

70% off of $25 is not $3, it is $7.50 total. So, when I go to checkout at the website and put in the code it only gives me the coupons for 70% off not $3. How do you get them for $3?

regular price is $10.00

The regular price of the $25.00 certificates is $10.00. So the 70% off code will make it $3.00 instead of $10.00 (70% less).

gift certificates

I used the code and paid $3. Not sure why?

gift certificates

I think it's because it's 80% off the certificate's marked price. I had one that came up $3.50 and the marked price was a $25 for $17.50. Under normal circumstances that's not a great deal with a savings of only $7.50. But with 80% off, a savings of $21.50 will work for me.

Extended

It's still working today with the WOW code. They haven't "restocked" for the new month, so there are lots of out of stock places, but still some great bargains to be had.

Due to outage

I've read on a few sites they extended through today, October 1, to make up for the downtime yesterday. Nice!

$10 certificates too.

Worked on $10 certificates too. I bought 5 $10 certs for $2 Woo HOo !!!!

restaurant.com is VERY SLOW right now

Thanks for the tip.

The site is PAINFULLY SLOW right now, so be patient. I guess lots of folks are snapping up the deals, so get them while they last.

I just got $150 for $7!

They must have more than usual left over at the end of the month if they are offering this big a discount. Of course the hot deals are all sold out at the end of the month :-(

Has any one seen either 1776 in Crystal Lake or Heaven on 7 in Naperville lately. I miss those two.

Yes, it is...

... I've been trying for about 15 minutes to order. I think everyone realizes how hot this deal is and their site's getting overloaded...

It was moving along for me

until I tried to check out, now I can't get anywhere.

?

Can you buy a restaurant.com gift certificate at 80% and then use that to purchase more gift certificates at 80% off as well?

I don't think so...

I read and re-read the conditions for those. I believe you get 80% off the restaurant.com certificate (paying $10 for a $50 gift cert--or this week paying $2 for $25, $4 for $50) and then you can redeem that $50 for one $50 restaurant specific gift certificate or for two $25 gift certs and so on.

I just found this on the site's FAQ section:

What is the value of a Restaurant.com Gift Certificate?
The Restaurant.com Gift Certificate is redeemable for available Restaurant Gift Certificates with equivalent or lesser face value. For example, a $50 Restaurant.com Gift Certificate is redeemable for either one $50 Restaurant Gift Certificate or two $25 Restaurant Gift Certificates.

Giordanos

It will come back in stock. Just wait and keep checking. Each restaurant only sells so many gift certificates each period (similar to a month) and at the start of the period those Restaurants will open up again. Just move fast to redeem your card for Giordanos. It goes pretty quickly.

Restaurants can change terms once Bought

My advice on these: Call restaurant before you go to see if terms have changed after your purchase or tell waitress as soon as you get there you have a certificate.
We drove 30 minutes to try a new restaurant that I had bought off of this. We didn't tell the waitress about our $25.00certificate if you spend total $35.00 because I didn't think it mattered. When I gave her the certificate, she told me they no longer took them on Saturday nights or the 3rd Friday of month. Ok. They changed the terms after my purchase. Needless to say, we paid $50.00 for a mediocre dinner.

Read the fine Print

You can only use 1 certificate per table and per month.. I bought 4 certificates for a restaurant that I thought I could use all at once.. Oh well.. probably wasted $24.00...

Read ALL certificates

ALL of their certificates have terms (certain nights of the week, limits per month, etc. - definitely read before you buy.) They ARE refundable though if you are unhappy with them or want to change the ones you bought to a different restaurant. I bought some once for a restaurant that was just horrible... I'd bought several for the same place and was able to switch them to different restaurants.

oh geat

yay thats great that they can be exchanged i did not know that...i used the site for the first time and was very pleased i was able to go to a nicer restaurant/lounge for our anniversary in august than i would have been able to...but i bought some pepes ones also and we didnt care for them..good to know.. once again thanks jill =)

I did

It wasn't till after I purchase it and printed it, did it say anything about 1 per table. Minimums and certain days are fine.. but one per table kind of ruins it..

There was one restaurant that listed 1 per table in the ad before you buy so i did not buy that restaurant. Others did not say anything about 1 per table, like i said till after i printed it

the 1 per table per month

happened to me also, i didnt know that was a stipulation either until after they printed...was bummed by it...but we still used it anyhow..

PLATE doesn't work : (

I'm trying to put in the promotional code PLATE is this right for the restaraunts saving? I can't get it to work it keeps saying not a valid code.

Try

typing in BIG that's the code I got in my email. I just tried it and it worked for me. Good luck!

Yeah Big worked! Thanks

Yeah Big worked! Thanks

price is coming up $3 each

I'm online trying to purchase. The code PLATE gives an 80% discount, which means they come to $3 each. Still a great deal, but I'm wonding why I'm not getting the $2 price as stated in the ad.

Some of the $25 certs cost more

I have no idea why, but some of the $25 certificates cost more than others. The $3 might be the price after the 80% discount was applied. Hope this helps!
