Deals of the Week for July 5, 2010

Hello, Super-Couponers! I hope everyone had a great Independence Day! Ours involved two slabs of ribs (from that last Target deal in which they were around $1.49/lb) slow-cooked all day to fall-off-the-bone perfection, slathered in bargain-priced barbecue sauce, then finished on the grill over some inexpensive Kingsford charcoal, along with chicken drumsticks from a past Jewel sale (bought with that great chicken coupon, of course,) ears of sweet corn, baked potatoes (wrapped in some free Reynolds Wrap and nestled in the coals) served on paper plates from another recent deal... and of course, everything was washed down with some fabulous, natural-sugar Cokes! Hope yours was great as well!

This week's newspaper contained one insert: P&G. (Where are the rest? We never have coupons on weeks containing a holiday [here's why] but since Procter & Gamble typically comes out the first week of the month, we got it.)

Ready for your Deals of the Week? You may enjoy FREE toothbrushes, cheap (.37-.49) salad dressings, cheap Worcestershire sauces, FREE air freshener spray, cheap mixed nuts, great ice cream deals, cheap and FREE barbecue sauces, cheap salsa, a decent diaper deal, FREE and cheap batteries, cheap razors, FREE contact lens solution, and cheap Sobe beverages (again!) And, oh yes, KMART DOUBLE COUPONS return too! Let's get started!

(Print: , Email:, or, jump directly to comments on this week's deals...)

If you're new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations.

It's a good idea to save the grocery and drugstore flyers each week to have on hand & refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you're new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing® website for a list of coupon classes (most are FREE!) and easy instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!

A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on Illinois stores, the Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you're shopping at a SuperValu, Safeway, or Kroger-owned store, you may find similar sales to our Jewel, Dominick's, and Hilander deals. Welcome, and enjoy!

AND... my Super-Couponing® class is now available on DVD! Own the 72-minute video and watch it whenever you like! Click for a video preview & learn how to order!

Unless otherwise noted, GROCERY store deals run through WEDNESDAY of this week, and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.

(Also, if you're new, you may not have some of the direct-mailed coupon books that I refer to for some deals. At the bottom of each week's deals, I list free coupon books that you can request to be mailed to you -- register for all of them, as I'll reference them in future weeks.)

Grocery Deals

Starting at Jewel...

Oral B indicator toothbrushes are on sale for $1 each. Use the $2-off-2 coupon from 7/4 PG and two are FREE!

Kraft salad dressings are $1.49. Use the $1 coupon from 6/20 SS and pay .49!

Here's a little deal on Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce! It's on sale for $2.99 and it also has an instant-savings deal attached to it too. Buy 4 and save an additional $2 instantly! So, if you buy 4, you're looking at $2.49 a bottle. Now add coupons... the 6/27 SS has $2 off the thick variety of sauce, and 5/23 SS has $1 off (additional $1 printables here and here.) With both, you'll pay $6.96 for four, or $1.74 each - a good price on enough bottles to last you well through grilling season.

If you're a multiple inserts person, with two $2 and two $1 coupons, pay $3.96 for 4, under $1 each.

With four $2 coupons, pay .49 a bottle.

Now, here's where the deal gets even more fun! Some bottles have "Try Me Free" rebates on them (one per household, so please don't take more bottles with rebates than you need, as this is going to be a hot deal for everyone.) With another $2.99 back in rebate... do the math! :)

Air Wick Aqua Mist Air Freshener spray is on sale for $2.50. Use the $2.50 coupon from 6/20 SS and it's FREE!

(Note that some editions of the Tribune received a $2 or $1 coupon instead -- this is similar to the Electrasol/Finish Quantum $5 coupon we saw about a month ago. It's a random insertion, so if you didn't get the $2.50, you might want to pass unless you need this.) Sale runs through July 25th.

Grande Tortilla Chips are on sale for $1.99. Use the $1 coupons from 6/27 SS and 4/18 SS to take these home for .99 a bag...

Fisher Fusions bagged mixed nuts are on sale for $1.29. Use any of many $1 coupons to take these home for .29: 6/20 SS, 2/28 SS, 2/7 SS, printable

Selected Malt O Meal cereals are $1.50. Use any of these .75 printables (there are 3 different, so you can print 6) and pay half that. Certainly, we've seen cereal MUCH cheaper, but if you need it...

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT USING THE $2.50 FINISH COUPON ON THE $2.99 FINISH ON SALE AT JEWEL: This coupon is for a size LARGER than what is currently on sale. Please read this explanation at the bottom of this page -- the sizes specified on the coupon are NOT the sizes on sale for $2.99.

"No Coupons Needed" Deals

While there are not a lot of coupons out for these, my Black Belt couponers will likely already have made many runs for 2 Edy's 1.5qts, taken them home, squeezed some more open freezer space, and then run back to do more rounds of 2 cartons, 2 cartons... just remember that this deal does not stack up.

Break your Black Belt Edy's transactions into two 1.5qt. cartons of Edy's. Pay $5 and get a $4 Catalina. Repeat until freezer is full. But remember, again, break them into separate transactions of two Edy's 1.5qts. each, and you will ultimately pay $1 for TWO cartons, or .50 each.

UPDATE FOR INDIANA JEWEL SHOPPERS: Reader "E" writes from Indiana:

"FYI - the Edy's doesn't work in Indiana this way, as our price point is lower in ALL the Indiana stores (yep burned my gas checking them all.) The ice cream is 4.95 original. So you have to buy three or two and three little cups if you have the buy two, get one free coupon. Either way you end up 7.00-7.50 out-of-pocket and while it's not a bad price it's not spectacular."

I don't typically post liquor deals in my grocery writeups (I don't drink! Sorry guys :) but many of my readers have found a super-cheap one on Smirnoff Vodka (read about it in the Forum.) It'll have you taking Smirnoff home for under $1 a bottle - yes, for the LARGE bottles (at Jewel or at Dominick's - readers have many scenarios posted.) It's rare we see alcohol this crazy-cheap.

Deals continuing from previous weeks:

Smuckers ice cream toppings are on sale for $1.50 each. If you picked up the Smuckers coupon books called "Cover Up! Your Vanilla is Showing," you'll have coupons for $1.25 off 2 and Buy 3, get the 4th free. Buy 2 with the first coupon and pay $1.75 for 2, .88 for each... or buy 4, use both coupons, and pay $3.25 for 4, or .81 each. (5/16 RP also has a $1-off-2 coupon.)

Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? If not, you're missing out on some GREAT coupons! Jewel has been emailing coupons out for everything from meats to party trays over the past few weeks. I have really been impressed with the nice coupons Jewel has been sending to their email subscribers lately & would highly recommend getting on their list if you shop there.

Jewel's house brand of diapers, Baby Basics, are a good buy with coupons! Jumbo packs are $7.99-$16.99 each at most stores depending on size of box/package. Use these $4 printables here (print 2!) and cut that price nicely!

Coupon booklets currently found at Jewel

Score More Savings - (soccer ball on cover) - has $28 worth of manufacturer and store coupons inside, including a FREE cookie at the deli counter, $2-off-2 Kellogg's, B1G1F 5lb. bags of Riceland rice, and many other goodies. Full list here. Expiring 7/31/10, with the exception of the Riceland coupon, which expires 12/31/2011..!

Sizzling Savings: Save More All Summer (child eating burger on cover) - manufacturer coupons for summer-themed products, like Popsicle, Klondike Bars, Banana Boat sunscreen, Pam grilling spray, and more. Full list here. Expiring 7/31/10.

Jewel meat deals:

  • Fresh chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.49/lb.
  • Fresh whole cut-up fryers are $1.69/lb.

(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is -- beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it's a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)

Jewel produce deals:

  • Fresh sweet corn is .19 an ear - THROUGH MONDAY, 7/5 ONLY
  • Sweet cherries are $1.99/lb - THROUGH MONDAY, 7/5 ONLY
  • Tomatoes on the vine are $1.99/lb

Let's go to Dominick's...

Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick's currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick's deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick's does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) - if your store doubles, you'll do even better with many of these deals.

Need some bargain barbecue sauce? Jack Daniels barbecue sauce is on sale for .99 a bottle. Use this .75 coupon and take it home for .24!

KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce is also .99 a bottle. With the $1 manufacturer coupon from the current weekly Jewel flyer, it's FREE!

Paper and cleaning deals: Dominick's is running a "Spend $15, get $5" Catalina deal on Brawny, Glad, Dixie, Clorox, Windex, and Hidden Valley Ranch through 7/13. With all of the deals on these lately, I didn't blog this one extensively, but you can use the Coupon Lookup (www.coupontom.com) to do your own matchups if you'd like.

Dom's also has another deal running called "Clean Up and Save Big" - 3 "big" cleaning items are $4.99 each when purchased in quantities of 3, mix or match. If you buy 3 Brawny, you'd be at $14.97. Find the cheapest
filler" you can to get over $15 -- the Glad bags are probably a good bet, or some Dixie plates/cups, or Clorox (remember to bring coupons for these too! Then add Brawny coupons... 6/27 RP and 3/14 RP (exp) have .50 off Brawny, and 1/24 RP (exp) has $1 off. With all 3 coupons, pay $12.97 and get $5 back - $7.97 for 3 Brawny 8-packs is $2.66 each!

With three $1 coupons, pay $11.97 for the Brawny and get $5 back.

"No Coupons Needed" Deal

Dominick's hot dog or hamburger buns are .99 a package...

I don't typically post liquor deals in my grocery writeups (I don't drink! Sorry guys :) but many of my readers have found a super-cheap one on Smirnoff Vodka (read about it in the Forum.) It'll have you taking Smirnoff home for under $1 a bottle - yes, for the LARGE bottles (at Dominick's or at Jewel - readers have many scenarios posted.) It's rare we see alcohol this crazy-cheap...

As usual, there are some Dominick's Super Coupons* in this week's ads too. Best bets?

  • Wish Bone Salad Dressing is .99, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Use the $1.25-off-2 coupons from 6/27 RP, 5/23 RP (exp,) 3/28 RP (exp,) or 1/31 RP (exp) and take two home for .73, or about .37 each!
  • Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage is $1.99, limit 5, with Super Coupon. Use the $1-off-2 from 6/6 RP, 5/16 RP (exp,) 4/18 RP (exp,) 3/21 RP (exp,) or 12/6/09 RP (exp) and take two home for $1.49 each.
  • Kraft singles are $1.49, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 (expired) coupon from the Dominick's "Serve up a Sandwich" coupon book a few months ago and pay .49...

Many Dominick's stores are clearancing out Prince pasta products as they're no longer going to carry this brand. I spotted a cartload of it at the back of the Crystal Lake Doms marked at .89 a box with 50% off -- that's just .45 if you need pasta...

*A note on Dominick's Super Coupons:

What does "minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required" mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.

  • California strawberries are $1.50/lb.
  • Large whole seedless watermelons are $1.99 - cheapest I've seen all year

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you're in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you're reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store... Confusing? Yes.

AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES Meijer location, they haven't been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the store is newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

Off to Target...

Here's a decent diaper deal on Luvs Diapers. We've seen better deals over the past month, but if you really need diapers, this isn't bad. To really rock this deal though, you'll need to have gotten two copies of the paper (or trade for these coupons with a friend...

The deal is this. Large boxes of Luvs are on sale for $16.99. When you buy two boxes, you'll get a $5 Target Gift Card. So, buy two ($33.98) and use two each of the following coupons:

$1 off - 6/27 Target - Target STORE coupons (if you're on Target's baby mailing list, you may have one from a recent mailer too)
$2 off - 6/27 RP - Manufacturer coupon

After two $1 Target coupons and two $2 Manufacturer coupons, pay $27.98 and get $5 back -- end total, $22.98 for TWO big boxes, or $11.49 each.

"No Coupons Needed" Deals

64oz. bottles of Market Pantry 100% Apple Juice are $1.50 - my buy point for bottled juices.

Deals continuing from previous weeks:

The Big Swiffer Deal

(This deal's legendary! If you hold your coupons and play them right, it's always cheaper to buy a Swiffer and a refill than buying the Swiffer or the refill alone. I've done this deal numerous times over the past few years in one form or another...)

You'll need the Target store coupon for $3 off the Swiffer Starter Kit from the 6/27 Target insert (some editions of the Tribune did not receive this insert) and the "Buy a Swiffer Sweeper starter kit, get a FREE refill coupon from the Home Made Simple: Decor Done Right coupon book.

Buy a Swiffer Sweeper starter kit ($8.99 at most stores.) Your $3 coupon knocks this down to $5.99. Now, get the LARGEST Swiffer refill you can find, as the coupon does not specify a size or quantity for your refill. (I like the 36-count Swiffer wet floor wipes, which usually sells for $14! It comes in a large cardboard "case" as opposed to the plastic tubs, and I've only seen this size at Target.) Pay $5.99 for the Swiffer AND the wipes -- that's cheaper than buying the wipes alone.

Back (again!) is the Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-a-Clean sprayer deal. This time, the spray cleaner is on sale for $8.74. Use the $5 manufacturer coupon from 6/13 SS and stack it with this $3 Target store coupon. $8 in coupon value on a $8.74 sprayer = .74 Scrubbing Bubbles!

Ray-O-Vac batteries are $1 in Target's Dollar Spot. $1 printable. 'Nuff said.

Some editions of the 5/16 RP contained a Target store coupon for $1 off any Bounty paper towels. Single rolls of Bounty Basic sell for .99 at most Targets! Get a roll free (through 7/31!)

Target has launched mobile Target coupons which you can load to your phone. They are Target store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with. Load coupons here. You can also print these offers by going to www.target.com/save and entering your phone number.

Remember too that you get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use!

Over at Kmart, the big big news of the week is that their SUPER DOUBLES double coupon promotion is back! Running 7/4 through 7/10 at these stores, here's the scoop:

  • You must have a Kmart Rewards card to participate. If you don't have one, you can sign up online or fill out a form in the store.
  • Five coupons will be doubled per customer/card, per day.
  • Coupons with a face value of up to and including $2 will be doubled. (.75 doubles to $1.50, $1 doubles to $2, $1.50 doubles to $3, $2 doubles to $4.) You do NOT get coupon overage with doubling as the store is matching the coupon's value up TO the purchase price, but not over. Coupons with a face value of $2.50 or $3 or more ring at FACE VALUE ONLY.

It's never super-easy to write matchups for these as Kmart store prices vary a little by EVERY location. Note too that during Double Coupon promotions, Kmart actually REMOVES points from your Kmart Rewards card (yes, they punish you for doubling. Crazy.) Some of my readers have found a way around this by using one Rewards card to accumulate points and using a spouse's card solely during double coupon promos -- and yes, they actually will rack up a negative points value on the card. Crazy but true.

There's also a "Spend $35, get $10" Catalina deal running at Kmart on P&G products (view ad page with products here.) Kmart's Catalina deals have been so hit and miss lately (sometimes they're on pre-coupon value, sometimes they're not) that I'm not blogging this one extensively, BUT, if you double your P&G coupons, you could do well here. Reader Mluks posted a nice scenario in this discussion.

I also added an asterisk (*) next to any P&G products in the above list. Please feel free to post any great scenarios you come up with too! Krazy Coupon Lady has some scenarios posted too, as well as a master list of Kmart matchups.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won't have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)

And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today's Deals of the Week! We're all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you... to YOU!

* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It's a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month -- typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you've recouped the cost of the magazine, and you're on your way to even bigger savings.)

sobe water and Kraft dressings

Jill, i don't understand how the Sobe deal works...if its, B1G1 don't they just ring up 2 at @1.99 then remove one of the charges? how does that work out to be 5 or 10 cents a piece Also the Kraft dressing was 1.69 in the grayslake Jewel. Do the prices vary from store to store? Thank you for your dedication in helping us. You are truly a blessing and I pray God continues to bless
you. You are a classy act!

Sobe is on sale BOGO

Sobe is on sale BOGO and with the BOGO coupon you can get 2 for free except the coupon is only good to $1.89 so you have to pay the $.10.

BOGO Sobe Qs

The Buy 1 Get 1 Sobe coupons are up to $1.69 value. So, in your case where they are ringing up at $1.99, you would still be paying $.30 cents for two of them during a buy 1 get 1 free sale. $.15 each.

thanks a bunch! :)

thank you for your help!

Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce

Super Couponers, I purchased four bottles of the Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce tonight (Wed. night) @ Jewel but did not receive the $2 instant savings. Yes, the cashier scanned my preferred card. Any suggestions on how to claim those savings?

Check here

The same thing happened to me.

There is a discussion here -> http://www.jillcataldo.com/node/11594

OMG...Paid $0.67/bottle of 64 oz. Old Orchard Juice @ Meijer!

I just bought 4 bottles of 64 oz. Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice from Meijer for $.67 each for a total of $2.68! The juice is on sale for 3 for $5. I had four $.50 manufacture coupons and four $.50 Meijer store coupons. With manufacture and store coupons it brought it down to what I think is an AWESOME price. Thanks Jill for teaching all of us how to use and stack coupons! I'm so grateful!

Coke coupons

I had four q's for 2.00 off each purchase of 4 12 packs coke products, however I only had one with me, went back later and asked to use the other three (since I bought 16 12 packs at Jewel for buy 4 for $8.... they ultimately did honor my other three q's (don't forget the free Johnsonville Sausages w/purchase of 3 12 packs) but insisted that it was one coupon per purchase.. I remembered in Jill's class that I should ask, how many am I purchasing, that it all was on one transaction, but I purchased 16 twelve packs.... Just wanted to clarify that I was right about that.

The Johnsonville coupon is

The Johnsonville coupon is limited to one per transaction.

Target - Hydro Razor

Went to Target in Crystal Lake today and they had the Hydro Razor for $7.99, I used the $4 Target coupon and $4 manufactuer coupon and got it free. Not sure which inserts they came from (however, not from the Target website) but they didn't expire until July 30 and August 5. They still had some on the endcaps and a few down the aisle, about 15 left.

I just did this today as

I just did this today as well! The Villa Park Target store had a bunch on the shelf earlier today.

Also, the Villa Park Target also had the Scrubbing Bubbles Extenda Clean for $6.99 still too! Wish I had another Target coupon for it.

Expired Catalinas from Jewel and Walgreens

I am going crazy because I messed up and didn't use my Catalinas in time. Is there anything I can do? They expired 6/30/10 and 7/1/10.

Try Jewel

They're only a few days passed. Stop and ask at the service desk if you can still use them. The sooner the better.

Try..

Dominicks has taken them for in the past without question but I can't guarantee they will again.

Target Luvs

Anyone get the Target insert and not want their Luvs Target store qs? I'm willing to trade. Email me at qpons2010@hotmail.com.

Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce

I purchased the 4 bottles of worcestershire sauce yesterday. Found one of the "Try Me Free" tags on one of the bottles. This morning as I was filling it out to send in, I noticed the wording on it. It says receive "By mail, a refund check for the net purchase price (max value $3.99)". The word that caught my eye was NET. Does that mean that they will look at the receipt and see if I used any coupons and see what I actually paid? I used the $2 Q's so my net price was only about the $.49 on the bottles. If that is the case I would probably be better off going and buying one bottle and not using any coupon then getting the full price back, so it is free other than tax. I don't do alot of rebates. Am I reading this right?

Net purchase price probably

Net purchase price probably refers to price before tax.
The clearing house may scrutinize receipt and adjust for coupons but usually not. All in all if they do and you only get $.49 after stamp you are still up $.05. May not be that much but stick with Jill and she'll more than likely help you get a month's worth of cereal with it.

Walgreens School Supplies..Tip

Remember that Target and Walmart match store ad prices on the same products they carry. IF your Walgreens is out and you are heading to the other stores anyway, bring your ad and check to see if they have the ad product in stock and price match.

Free Milk Cat's??

Does the free milk cat fall into the product area and will Dom's new policy still honor them if expired?

Skinny Cow coupons

Hello everyone,
Can you advise where I can locate a skinny cow coupon. The two sites above do not work for me.
thank you.

Dominicks Policy

I just came home from Dominicks (elmhurst) I wanted to use some expired Walgreens RR and some expired catalinas from Jewel. Last week the cashier said I could use them. Tonights trip new cashier who said their manager just told them they can only take one per transaction because it was from Walgreens. I explained that it was a manufactures coupon, she said she knew but can only take one. Is this a new policy at Dominicks? I am new to supercouponing so I'm not sure. Thanks

New policy

The new Dominick's policy actually states they're only to accept Catalinas from other stores with actual products on them, not $5 off your next order or Wags RRs anymore, so you were lucky you could use it.

I just used

2 expired $10 OYNO cats from Jewel at Dom's without any problem.

Been awhile

I have been only able to use one catalina per transaction for quite awhile now. That would also apply to the catalinas that come out of Dominick's cat machine, one cat per transaction.

I would go back...

I would go back to customer service and plead my case. Jewel is pretty good at listening to the customer and the cashier's name is on the receipt, she may remember to you and say oh, yeah she had two coupons. I would try it the worst they can say is no and then yes, return the toothbrushes. As you could read on the threads, :-) "you win many, you lose some"! Chalk it up and trust me you will get a better coupon soon!

Baby wipes

Weren't working at CL Kmart today either. Cashier said it is not a health and beauty item and that another shopper was irate with her earlier today because the coupon wouldn't double.

Honestly, I understand everyone's frustration when a deal doesn't work for them but in this case it isn't the cashiers fault, it is the way the registers are programmed.

My Dominicks trip...

I have good luck at my Dominicks-bought 4 Kraft singles-limit 3 on the super q, but I had 2 coupons for $1/2 so I purchased 4, thinking I'd pay regular price for the last one-regular price was $15.96, but by some weird calculation, the register took off $15 for the super q, and then with my q's, it looks like I got paid $1.04 to take them home. I double checked the receipt, and it all adds up that way.

14 ct prilosec is on sale for $9.99-had $4 p/g e-coupon, and used $1/1(not terrible, for something my hubby NEEDS-used my $5 q at CVS for it earlier to get $7 ECB back)

lastly, Hormel always tender pork tenderloin on sale b1g1f, and the checker let me use 2-$1/1(exp) Hormel. I wasn't sure, since the 1st one rings up full price(11.99) and the 2nd one rings up 0.00 probably not a great deal-it ends up being about $2.90ish/lb, but it was very tasty on the grill last night, and still cheaper than eating out :)

70% savings on that trip(had a couple other items that I paid paid reg price for, but q's used 'cause I needed 'em :)

Hormel Pork Tenderloins

are what my kids love the most and one of them is a picky eater so I took up on this deal and bought four. The teriyaki one is actually $9.99 and the rest were 11.99. Jewel has the same product and their price is $10.99 but they didn't have the sale when I had the coupons so it was worth using them at Dominick's since they took the expired ones. So I paid a dollar more but what the heck I needed them anyway. With limited freezer space, and I mean limited, pork tenderloins are easy to find room for them.

I also like to put a

I also like to put a tenderloin in the crockpot with a can of beer and nothing else-let it go on low for 6-7 hours-shred it, then pour a bottle of sweet baby rays original over and reheat-makes an awesome & super easy pulled pork! yum

1.99 Meats Sales?

Jill we are new here and I see you say that you only buy meat for 1.99 or less, for things like chicken I see this all the time but what about Steak or Shell fish? how often do you see filet stips t-bones and shrimp for 1.99 or less. Im not doubting you from what I have seen Im sure you can do It i guess I just wanted to know when does this happen? May family loves steak and shrimp.

$1.99 per pound

Remember it's $1.99 per *pound* of meat.

I think it was a few months back, April?

Keep faith, it does happen! I think it was a few months back. I had to get a raincheck, but I was able to get 8 filet mignon for like $2.00.

On sale again!

Yes, I have gotten filet mignon for under $1 each -- in fact, I got more this week. (However, the coupon needed is no longer available to print, so I didn't blog it.)

Back in March, the deal was this -- Chefs Requested 2-packs of filet mignon is $7.99, B1G1F at Jewel (it is again this week too.) With the printable coupons that were out during the deal, there was a Buy 3, get the 4th package Free coupon and a $3 off one package.

So the deal went like this. Buy 4:

Pack 1: $7.99
Pack 2: $0
Pack 3: $7.99
Pack 4: $0

The Buy 3, get the 4th free takes $7.99 off. The $3 off the other pack takes another three off, and you're left paying $4.99 for 4 packages, or $1.25 per 2-pack. That's .75 per steak!

My mom had extras of these coupons that she didn't use in the last sale, and they didn't expire until 12/31/10, so I hung onto them waiting for the sale to come around again. And it did. :) It's running right now through Wednesday.

Chefs Requested's site (http://www.chefsrequested.com/) has a $1 printable now for the filets - with that, you could buy 2 and pay $6.99 for 4 filets -- that's about $1.74 each. Not the best price, but the best I know of right now.

-----------

As far as other bargain meats - check the meat clearance at Dominick's. They often slash things by 50% when they're getting close to expiring -- I have grass-fed beef steaks in the freezer that I paid $1.99/lb. for once they were clearanced.

-----------

Shrimp - I usually get my shrimp at Dominick's when there's a coupon in the seafood department (there are often coupon books with $2 or $3 off Waterfront Bistro, their house brand of shrimp. I'll wait until it's on sale or part of a Super Coupon deal in the flyer, then use those coupons too -- and buy as much as you can freeze. I can usually get the 2lb. bags of frozen shrimp for around $5 after a good sale and coupons -- that's about $2.50/lb.

Chef Request Buy 3 get one free

Today at the Jewel on Wolf Road in Orland Park they indicated they were not accepting this coupon because it was an internet coupon for a "free" item. So no filet mignon for me. Do you know of any other Jewel Stores in this area that are accepting it?

They're incorrect

We hear this occasionally, but it's not a coupon for "one free item." It's a coupon in which you must buy other qualifying products to get another free (like a Buy One, Get One Free) and that IS allowable under Jewel's policy.

I know this one first-hand, as I did the deal during my Nightline filming in March, and when you film in a store, they send someone from Jewel Corporate to verify that everything you're doing is in compliance with their policies -- no problems.

Chefs Request Deal & Coupon B3G1

Late yesterday evening I decided to skip the cashier and go directly to customer service to discuss and got the same story, don't accept internet for free items or over $5.

I was persistant and asked them to check with corporate or give me a raincheck and I would contact their corporate office. Normally I don't have any problems there. Finally after several conversations internally they checked me out at the service desk. And after the attendant saw store had it at B1G1 you would think I had stolen their first born!

Thanks for your help. Cheap filet mignon for anniversary!

Thanks for the reminder...

I never used the Buy 3 get 4th one free coupons I had as they wouldn't take it combined with the $3 off Q. I have one more day to find them or get a raincheck. These actually tasted pretty good except you do have to cook them on the sides towards the end to get the bacon a little crispy. The kids enjoyed them.

I got more too

Yes, I got more as well because I had some coupons from last time around!!

Thanks Jill!

We make these by taking off the bacon, butterfly cutting and then marinding them...YUMMY!!

Dom's Kraft Singles

Need more? There were $1 off 2 Man Q's in the recent Jewel flyer and Dom's Add Dairy to your Summer Adventure. They freeze well.

Thanks!

I'm new here and I didn't even think to freeze the Kraft singles! Thank you! I'll be doing some more shopping tomorrow!

Walgreens..7-Up Sale

3/$3 use Jewel Osco Score More Savings (soccer ball on front) Man Q and save $1 off 3 = .66 a 2L.

Where in the store did you

Where in the store did you find that booklet? I still can't find it anywhere!

Booklet

The Algonquin Jewel had them in a display in the front entrance. If they are not out, you coud possibly ask at the cust.serv. desk. or call ahead to your Jewel.

Thanks, but my Bartlett store

Thanks, but my Bartlett store had only the red booklet by the door, and anytime I asked about the other one, they had no idea what I was talking about.

Pampers Wipes

Meijer has the Pampers wipes tubs for 1.99 in Illinois.

Huggies wipes

I think I just bought Huggies after the 1st for the same price. Didn't have my Q's with me. Am going back to get them for $.99 unless Walmart has them cheaper.

Brawny at Dominicks

is ringing up with the 4.99 and 3 no longer gets you the cat. I went to return it though and they said that it was only 3 cents difference and they would just give me $5 cash. I couldn't believe I was at Dominicks! Of course, then I went to Meijer and my 1.99 watermelon rang up at almost $18. Obviously customer service fixed it with no problem.

Thanks for the warning!

I was going to go do that deal tonight.

Thanks

Thanks for the update - I will note this above. With Dominick's, you had to figure that instant-savings loophole was too good to last.

toothbrushes at jewel

I bought 4 oral-b toothbrushes and had 2 $2 coupons. Just got home and realized the cashier only took off one of the coupons. I know I should have looked over my receipt before leaving the store, but my Jewel was PACKED and all I could think about was leaving asap.

What can I do about the second coupon not being applied? What are my options?
