Freezer deal

Where are the freezers located in the store and do they help you put the freezer in your car?

Where?

I was able to get my freezer on Wednesday evening at the Huntley Jewel. There were 3 of us there buying them, we all waited at the service desk, paid there, got our envelope of coupons there and waited there for the stock guys to bring it up. They walked with me out to the car and helped load it in.

Huntley did have one on display at the North entrance to the store but I think it was just advertising. My whole transaction was done at the service desk.

Crack of dawn

That is what time I got up today to get the freezer deal.I called my local Jewel last night to find out if our was going to have them on sale today with the coupons.I was told YES and that they opened at 5:00 a.m I was up at 4:00 to get dressed have some breakfast and decided to check this blog. When I did I saw that my local Jewel was NOT going to have these on sale today. So I got up for nothing. But I was determined to find one that was on sale now.So first I went to Crystal lake. They have them but there is a note on these that said the sale starts Sunday. My next stop Algonquin I looked and I looked but I did not see these there. If they are out I just could not find them.So next stop Huntley BINGO found them. And they are selling them early. There were plenty there. It was just too easy.It thought I would have to get up early stand in the cold(which I would have done, almost did)to get this freezer. And there they all were.I hope that everyone that wants a freezer is able to get one.Thank you so much again Jill. You have helped my family save so much and we really need it.This freezer is going to help so much.We have a side by side freezer that is just too small for really stocking.Thank again :-)

I second what is the deal?

I didn't see any mention of this deal in the new circular that came out today. I did see some freezers in the store for 179 no mention of any coupons. Does anyone know when there will be some advertising of this deal? And are all the coupons for totally free items that total the cost of the freezer? That would then mean there is no need to hold onto to the coupons, right?

Separate mailer

In years past, the freezer deal has been advertised in a separate mailer announcing frozen food sales.

And are all the coupons for totally free items that total the cost of the freezer?

Yes.

That would then mean there is no need to hold onto to the coupons, right?

WRONG. Unless you absolutely must eat the food right now, you should hold them all.

Have you been able to come to one of my classes? I explain the best way to use these coupons (I've touched on it during this discussion too if you read all the posts.)

Will this deal be available

Will this deal be available throughout the chain? I'm in Southern California and have Albertson's instead of Jewel.

I don't know...

Honestly, I do not know. Jewel does this every year, every February, for close to 10 years or more now. I know the Shaw's chain (also owned by SuperValu) also does a freezer deal, but not necessarily the same week as the Jewel deal. Last year, Shaw's had the freezers for $160 with $100 in coupons and a $25 Shaws gift card.

I'd recommend calling your Albertsons' corporate office (look on their site for the number) and asking. It can't hurt to ask :)

Coupon List

Jill, are you going to print out the list of coupons soon so that we may decide if the deal is right for us. Also, looking at your list of coupons from last year, am I understading it right that the coupons are all for FREE items (not like $1.00 off an item). I was a little confused. I plan to attend your seminar in April so this deal is new to me. Thanks

So what is the deal?

Does this start this weekend or now?Any confirmation on which ones are doing this early? That does not make sense. If they sell out before the add goes out.I was hoping this would be later in the week since DH does not get paid until Friday. If I write a check out I hope it will take two days to clear.

Officially...

Again, the ad hasn't hit yet, but it's supposed to be Sunday-Monday, according to some in-store signs. However, I know for a fact some stores are already selling the freezers for $149 with the coupons (someone in my family stopped by tonight and I saw them all first-hand too!) So you may want to call your store and see if they're running it early.

I am posting the full list of the coupons included in the deal on the next page of this discussion.

Not mine...

I just called the Jewel near me, Franklin Park, & I was told the sale starts on Sunday. He was kind enough to double check & even mentioned the free coupons. He told me he has the coupons but no freezers yet. So, it looks like some Jewels are starting early! :)

I just called some stores by me, and went in person to one that wouldn't sell it. I did find one that is selling (and I did get it). It depends on the store.

Here's the deal

As I remember it from the past. You buy the freezer for $150 and you get the "food to fill it". ..... In the form of "free" item coupons. That's it. You can walk out of the store with a freezer and $150 worth of "free" coupons for future purchases. AND the big deal is (in case you haven't made it to one of Jill's classes) that you hold on to those coupons until the items go on sale buy one get one free! Then you get two for the price of none. :) So us savy shoppers will get a $150 freezer and $300 worth of food to put in it! A $450 value for $150!

For those of you who haven't taked Jill's class, here's one more reason why you should! :)

8th and 9th

My mom was just in another store, which has the freezers on the floor too, and the sign on the freezers says the deal starts Feb. 8th and 9th (SUNDAY and Monday) not Sat-Sun as was rumored. Keep that in mind, especially if you're planning a midnight freezer run... you'll want to go out SATURDAY night.

Doesn't sound right...

They aren't going to be able to sell it for $149 if the Preferred sale price is not set up to ring up that way in the system yet. If it's in the system though...

NO SALE OF FREEZERS IN WOODSTOCK UNTIL SUNDAY

I was just at the Woodstock Jewel, and after about a half an hour at CS with phone calls, questions, confirmations, and even getting someone out of bed they said this:
The freezer sale starts SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8.

Someone misread the information they received stating that the store would receive the coupons between Feb 5-8. They said they had over 100 calls today, and CS was confirming that it started on Thursday, BUT IT DOES NOT!

They have the coupons, and they have the freezers, but they are not selling them on Thursday. So, don't get out of bed early, because you will be disappointed! Wait until Sunday. Good Luck!

Where to put the freezer...?

I have been trying to convince hubby that we need this freezer. To make my point, my freezer is packed right now (I didn't do that entirely on purpose...). So last night he said he doesn't want to have to look at it-we have a one bedroom apartment and his stepmom just (temporarily) moved in with us, so it's a bit crowded (it's a big apartment, though). We finally made a deal that I have until this weekend to accept or not. I get my freezer and he gets to spend the same amount of money on an electric guitar. Hmmm...I don't really think that works out in his favor-can he get one for $150 (roughly)? Doesn't he need an amp to use it? Still thinking it over....

Freezer vs. guitar

Having known and worked with numerous musicians in my life, a decent guitar and amp cannot be had for $150. (Not even close! :) One of my good friends is a guitar dealer too, and I know what even the "cheap" guitars go for. While I love music and am a not-so-secret rock & roller at heart, the freezer is by far the best financial investment right now. Plus, you can only get it at this price ONCE a year! Guitars can be had any day of the week.

And, I know of at least one other blog reader in a 1-bedroom apartment who plans on sticking that freezer in their living room and treating it as another piece of furniture! :) Get creative! People sure have lots of good ideas for their upcoming freezers. I recently taught Super-Couponing at a Stampin' Up convention (scrapbooking/rubber stamping/decorating) and someone there suggested using their Decor Elements vinyl decals to decorate the freezer and make it blend in with the rest of the look of the room!

If that's not fitting to your taste though, perhaps your hubby could faux-finish it to look like a Marshall amp. :)

Sell it!

How about you buy the freezer, grab the great coupons, sell the freezer (even for less than you paid to get rid of it) and put the money towards a guitar/amp.

Then you're both about 1/2 happy. =)

Give it away

How about you take the freezer to the food pantry or Goodwill on Randall Rd.? That way you get the coupons you want, while not really paying for it, (because you get the q's), and you get to write it off your taxes as a donation in 2009. While you're at it, you can clean out your own freezer and donate things to put in it. Everyone wins. :-)

That is What I am going to do!

I am going to buy it and then try to sell the freezer on Craig's List or something. We have 2 standup freezers in our basement already. (A good family friend is a farmer, so we have one freezer filled with 1/2 of cow, and the other is filled with a pig...both dead and packaged individually of corse.LOL) I just want the coupons....

Some might consider it greedy...

if you race out to Jewel to get your second or third freezer, just for the coupons and for the profit of selling it. There are so many (me included) that could really use the freezer. My personal story doesn't matter, but thanks to Jill and her great direction I have been able to save some of the money weekly that my husband isn't making anymore. Yes, I want the coupons too and I get that everyone could use the food, but I feel that some may be setting aside good morals for a great deal.

Times they are a changin'

You know times are a little different when you are more excited about getting a new freezer than you would be going out and buying yourself a new outfit or say spending a $300 weekend out of town with your hubby or a fancy night out!!!! Hee! I would prefer the freezer myself! (Not because I don't adore my hubby, either!)

How right you are! I don't know if it's a sad thing or a good thing that I want the freezer vs. going out/new outfit! Before Jill, I would've spent that money on the latter, no problem!

5.2 cubic feet

Last year it was 5.2 cubic feet, which is about the size of a washer or dryer. It's not terribly huge. Mine is currently in my garage, right outside the kitchen, which I've found is really convenient for meal planning too :)

I am new but I do understand this deal. I am signed up for coupon class but not until April. These were the coupons. A huge majority of them had 12/08 expiration dates, so that was a nice long time to wait for good sales to match them to.

Again, these WERE the coupons for 2008's deal. I have no idea yet what will be included for 2009, but it will likely be similar:

But of those 38, just 6 of them did not go B1G1F over the course of the year. So, I got 70 food items in the deal instead of 38. :)

Some stores have them in the aisles already. Others keep them in the back. Last year, I just went to the service counter, told them I wanted one - paid for it, signed a form stating I had received the coupons (they give them to you in an envelope and you sign for them, so you can't say you didn't receive them later) and then two guys wheeled it out on a dolly to my truck.

(And you will need a truck or SUV to take it home - it absolutely won't fit in a car.)

Jill, is this something that each store only has a few? Or will we not have problems getting this? Free food too, right? I'm excited and already checking the garage for a great spot!

Have you spent the $150 just to get the coupons?

Just wondering if you have and if you have how many times have you spent the $150 to get the coupons and not taken delivery of the "deep freeze"?
How much, dollar-wise, do you think you're ahead with just coupons?

Keep in mind that you don't get to pick the products your coupons are for -- the store gives you a big envelope of pre-selected coupons. I did it last year though and was pretty happy with what came with it. And keep in mind that the $150 value number is figured on the regular (highest) non-sale price for the items in the deal. But if you've taken Super-1, you know the best way to use those coupons. I don't know if it's the best financial deal if you don't care about adding a new appliance to your family, but if you -need- one, they cost about this much without the coupons in the deal at any other store, so that definitely sweetens things.
